Case xx USA 5 dot lightning s 6318 SS

I have a 6318 SS with the CaseXX (The C wraps all the way around under the rest of Casexx and the S's are lightning, i thought this would be 1997 model but the Case price guide says that tang stamp is 1985, anyway the pins are recessed, see pics, shouldnt there be rivet covers on there? could this be a repaired or counterfeit knife or were some made like this?

I have an '84 model of the same knife with the razor edge etch on the blade and the pins are recessed on it,also.

it's a 1995.

So it's a 7 dot system from 93 to 99, i assume that a 93 issue would be 3 dots then and a dot for each yar after that?

it's probably a little confusing. when jim parker took over case he started dating with the actual year, 1990-1993. later case made a run of 500 knives with each of the missing dots years, 10 dot, 9 dot, 8 dot and 7 dot. 93 was a 7 dot year.

Howdy Bubba,

I have about half a dozen W R Case & Sons Stockman patterns that have recessed pins holding the scales on & I think this is pretty common, your knife doesn't appear to look re-handled in the photos to me Bubba!

That 6318 has what were called "antique green bone" handles and it was one of three patterns made exclusively for Wal Mart. Wal Maert actually sold a few patterns of Case knives in the mid 90's.

The pins are normal for that era, they were sunk in to the bone and the bone was not finished down to the level of the pin head.
