I've long believed that what goes around comes around, or in other words you reap what you sow. I've seen it time and time again, but I never dreamed it would be so direct as this...........

Some time back I learned that AAPK member "bestgear" needed a caplifter blade for a dandy little Utica Camp Fire Girls scout knife he owned. I contacted him and let him know I had a spare Utica unofficial scout knife I would let him have to use as a doner knife for the caplifter blade if it would work. I sent it to him and it did work. I'd done my good deed for the day. End of story, right ?

Not quite. A couple of days ago I opened my mailbox to find an unexpected package waiting for me. Inside was this customized Utica scout knife along with a very nice note from "bestgear". He explained that he'd been able to use the caplifter blade on the Camp Fire Girls knife and the rough black scales on a LF&C scout knife he had. He went on to tell me that AAPK member and master craftsman "Elvis" had then reworked my doner knife and that he was returning it to me ready for service. My jaw dropped when I unwrapped the knife. It was beautiful!!!!

Thank you bestgear and thank you Elvis. I'm thrilled with my "new" scout knife. It's been riding shotgun to my Canal Street congress ever since it arrived. I love it !

While I learned as a youth that "A Scout is Kind", it took another 40+ years to see it in action here on AAPK so when the opportunity presented itself - making it happen was easy. I never knew that such satisfaction could come making somebody's day by returning a knife to service but I now sport what I call a perma-smile!

I've now had 5 different knives worked on by Elvis (Bob) and his work is world-class. I just acquired a 130 year old Excelsior 2-bladed jack that will be headed to Cincinnati for new handles, fur sure it will be in good hands.

Enjoy the knife Phil and don't make me cut a corner off your totin-chip!

Phil, since I was able to find a donor blade among my parts knives, it let me leave your donor knife intact. Very generous of Tom to return it after the rehandle job.

Colonel (which I found out is NOT an honorary title), I finished your knife about half an hour ago. I think you'll be pleased with the results Sir.

Tom, just let me know what kind of handles you want on that old Excelsior and we're in business. I love it when a plan comes together!
