-Jack knives are among my top picks for EDC.

Yours is what's known as a "Curved Jack," and based on the tang stamp, it was made between the late '50s & late '60s. Maybe someone here has information to narrow that down.

Here's some information on "Tubbs."
It just adds to the value in my opinion; a great American company story!

Greg, Harvey Platts, in his book about WESTERN said that the company quit using the WESTERN STATES mark on their letterheads in 1942. I would have assumed that they also quit using it on their tang stamps about the same time. There is a timeline of 1911 to 1951 oft-repeated in the literature for the WESTERN STATES mark, but I don't believe it. In the first place, Platts didn't get his first building in Boulder, Colorado started in construction until late 1918. He arrived in Colorado much earlier and was selling knives that he had shipped from back East. I doubt that his mark was on them, but impossible to know for sure now. And why would they quit using the mark in their paperwork but continue to use it as a tang stamp for nine more years past 1942? Naaaah... I don't think so. So 1918 to 1942 is the timeframe for the arched WESTERN STATES tang stamp, in my opinion. Therefore I feel that your knife is definitely pre-War. Even without the tang stamp, the blade grind says pre-War. Good find!

Cal, Thanks for all the info, should arrive the next day or two, put a little wash
and clean on it, and should be fine example. Plus as Bill said great old company
it is advertising. will get better pictures up too.
