The Saturday Evening Post-RobesonDisplay Ad
I know that many antiques malls or shops have sections where one can peruse old issues of American magazines like Look, Life and The Saturday Evening Post.
Such magazines often carried cutlery ads, I suspect.
I know the December 3rd, 1910 issue of The Saturday Evening Post carried a full page ad on the inside front cover for The Robeson Cutlery Company.
Of particular interest, the ad introduced and illustrated fifteen new patterns of pocketknives, when those patterns are found, I know their beginning date of manufacture was 1910.
I've had two of these. I forget where I found the first one, which was just the front cover and which I still own and is illustrated here, but the second one I bought off Ebay many years ago. When the seller and I communicated re' shipping, he turned out to be only about ten miles away here in Birmingham. I only paid two dollars for the complete magazine. I sold it to another Robeson collector several years ago.
I suspect there are still examples of this magazine out there. Be on the lookout.
The front cover is a nice old Leyendecker Christmas illustration of a small boy checking out Santa's whereabouts and holding a belated letter to him. Last minute request, I guess.
I have this framed so both sides can be viewed.
Photos should expand.

Thanks for posting that Charlie
I have a stack of these old SEP magazines somewhere, I will have to look through them someday.

I like the one that's bottom row, third from right.
So, I take it from the add that no one else made Robesons. That's cool.

Kinda makes you wonder where Bob Cargill got his design ideas for those Cripple Creeks, doesn't it?

Man, that's collecting right there, Charlie! Love looking at this type of old add and then seeing the actual, beautiful Jack knives that still exists.

No denying that Bob built some great knives, but IMHO, I think this is a classic case of often immitated, but never equaled.RobesonsRme.com wrote:Kinda makes you wonder where Bob Cargill got his design ideas for those Cripple Creeks, doesn't it?

Very. I've only seen three.
The first one I own, the second sold on Ebay a few years ago.
