Just finished reading Blade Magazines review of V Sharpening systems April 2006 issue.
Anyone have a favorite system for knife Sharpening in any of the following categories:
1] V Rod System Example Spydero Sharp Maker, or other
2] Free hand (no guidance - just practice) and what type of stone: Water stone, Arkansas, Diamond, etc
3] Guidance System - Example Lansky or other
Looking forward to hearing what you think.
V SHarpening Systems anyone? OR Something else?

I prefer my old Crock Stick, made by Chicago Cutlery, of course mine if about 18-19 years old, but they still make variations of it. I have medium rods right now, and would like to pick up another set of fine.
I usually use a stone first and then go Crock Stick to get that razor fine edge.
If it is a working knife, I may just run it through my electric sharpener (be cautious using one! You can jack up the blade!) then go Crock stick as well.
