SCHRADE AUTO HELP NEEDED

Hey ya fellas. I bought a schrade auto the otherday. The guy I got it from knows zilch about knives and he did a fair job at its description for being clueless about the particulars. First off the knife was described as such. For sale but I have no idea what its worth. Schrade 1613 peach seed handle no cracks everything works. Blade measures 4" over all open 8.5" hardly any blade play. the action works good. The seller added Opens to lock position. Handle is tight with no chips or cracks. He had several so so pix nothing in high def but you could see good enough.. Knife is gorgeous.. no doubt.. I am trying to make this posting as fair and accurate as I can. I believe this seller was totally honest he just wasnt aware of how knit pickin the knife collecting bunch we all are. I got the knife yesterday in the mail box. And after putting my whineOscope specks on I found a few issues. The blade wasnt quite 4" it is 3 7/8th.. There is a fairly nasty hairline around the pile side front lower pin spreading out in 3 directions, pin to back spring.. pin to bolster and yet another very fine one headin east south east. There is also a loose bolster it kinda slides a bit back and forth but back more off to one side kinda like one side is loose and the other is pinned. I paid 250 postal money oder shipped for this knife.. I figured that was not to bad of a deal after talking to a few chat rowdys and warding Bamo's bids away. I need some imput on what the knife is worth as it is now. All comments and questions are welcome.. EXCEPT from Bamo.. no I told ya so is necessary

The blade looks good, the bolster is askew for some reason that is why there is a gap between the bolster and the bone handle, can you turn it to straighten it out?

The cracks by the front pins are very common on these knives, the pins were too close to the edge of the bone.

I like auto's and I think 250 is a pretty good deal on that knife unless the blade is noticeably short. I can't really see the blade length as it sits in the frame. I also hate pins cracks and try hard to avoid them but I think the price is still okay considering that. All that said looks like a fairly educated description and I would still be inclined talk to the seller about the knife not being as described.

The bolster is loose and it will sit flush with the scale. In the picture it is as far as it moves away from the bolster.

The blade is 3 7/8ths

These knives are suppose to be 8.75 " open .... looks like it would clean up nice . That's the second stamp they used indicating an earlier knife . That loose bolster is a bit odd in that these are pinned in opposite corners and almost never come loose on there own ?? It would be difficult to fix that , someone here may have a trick or two that will help aside from glue . I like the early jigging on yours

I have a knife like that one. I tried to date it but the tang mark isn't very clear. I believe it to be close to 100 years old. It sill works great and the handle is completely intact. It's a great knife.

How did you arrive at that?

According to well documented literature the Feb. Feb. patent dates on your knife would be the earliest of Schrade Cut. Co. markings and puts it at about 1907 to 1910 . the addition of the Sept. mark ( as on the other knife posted above yours) was 1910 to 1916 or so. after that was the Dec. Sept . June. markings up to 46 .

I also have a Camillus Sword Brand USA #8 (it looks like a buck knife) I'm trying to find out something about it, but I'm not sure which forum I should post it to. It's in great shape and worth seeing.

Your knife was made prior to 1910 I gave the same knife and love it ,a great handful of American steel.

the bolster is moving because one of the two pins that hold it on is sheared off, a fairly common issue on damaged knives, not that common on nicer examples like this. The bone cracks as shown are very common, can be stabilized with zap a gap and a fine applicator, blade looks pretty full. You did not over pay in my opinion.
