No;it is a tradition that if a knife is given as a gift then the recipient must give that person a coin(usually a penny)in response.Not sure when or where it started but I remember it when I was a child and that was MANY years ago.jww wrote:Steve, has it got something to do with cutting off friendship?

That is sweet! I used to have two of those knives still in their original padded envelopes! Is my memory correct that the pennies are dated in the 60's?
