Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD

Post by drm1017 »

I posted this thread last night .....
Bombing Mission Hiatus?
I haven't seen any bombing missions recently. Has the campaign been stopped or might some have slipped under the radar, going stealth
?

No replies ::shrug:: Guess I should have worded it differently or been clearer.

The reason I was inquiring is because I have a knife I want to send to someone, but the circumstances might be a little different than what usually happens in this forum.
I have a 1972 Camillus military knife. It was given to me by an ex father-in-law. It was not his service knife, he served in WWII, and it has no sentimental value to me. I would like to send it to a Vietnam era veteran. Someone it would have some meaning to and might appreciate it. I was thinking that maybe the Nam vets here might know of someone, AAPK member or not, who would like to have it.

The knife is in reasonably good condition. The liners and tangs need some cleaning and lube. Springs are good and all blades have good snap. The main blade needs sharpen. The knife has the usual wear for a 40 plus year knife.

Not sure how to pick a recipient. I want to be fair if there are multiple replies. Maybe closest matching number determined by the Maryland Pick 3? I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks,
Randy

Got bombed today big time!! :o :D Never even seen it coming ::groove::

An inconspicuous package arrived from Rob, (whitebuffalo58), when I opened it I could not believe my eyes!

Inside was a beautiful old pocket knife, a Schmachtenberg Brothers ebony handle jack. Nothing I like more than an unusual or patented old knife and this one surely fits the bill. It is a patented design where the back springs are enclosed and the handles and bolsters are attached without any pins.

Thank you so much Rob, you made my whole week my friend!! ::handshake:: ::tu::

I got anonymously bombed!!!
only being here and collecting for 6 months, I continue to be 'blown away' by the generosity and brotherhood of this site
I got the 1972 Camillus service knive above and it has so many meanings to me, too many to list all now.
I hope all my mentors and new friends understand and remember how hard it is to think of letting go of all my new 'treasures', even though I know allot of them are considered junk by veteran collectors
that is why i signed up for the POS exchange, to force myself to 'let go' of some, and I hope in the future to bomb someone
so thanks to Perry and Randy, words can't describe the feelings your gifts overwhelmed me with,
PS, I think the Camillus is in NM shape, both of them, just to show you what stage my accumulation and expertise are at
The only mystery in life is why the kamikaze pilots wore helmets.

I got bombed last week.
This knife appeared in my mailbox from Protem MO.

I opened it and found a nice Schrade SC524, the scrimshaw version of the 123OT, one of my favorite user patterns! ::ds::

It has been residing on my workbench ever since, ready to help out at a moment's notice! ::nod::

When I get caught in my shop I will put some bone or micarta handles in it. This one will be a user!!

Thanks Rob (whitebuffalo58)!!! ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

That is what I'm thinkin' Glenn.

I have several bone handle sets that I ordered because I was curious about how they would look, because they were unusual and I just wondered how they would look on a knife.
Then everyone wants a certain color or jigging and I never end up using these different sets.

Am I the only one that does this? ::shrug::

Well, this is a perfect chance to use one of those “special” sets of handles! ::super_happy::
