I've been a fan of micarta-handled knives for many years. In 1978 my grandmother indulged me when I peered into a Buck knife countertop display in a sporting goods store and selected a 501 "Esquire" as my birthday present.
Last year, I picked up the 506 "White Knight" for $5. A couple of days ago, I paid $10 for the newest member of the 500 series: the 503 "Prince."
And so, the collection grows...

Thanks, Garddogg!garddogg56 wrote:Very nice Billthere easy to get hooked on when I carry a sheathed 501 when not at work
Yep, I still have the original sheath that came with my 501, 36 years ago. (Man! I'm old!)
At the moment, I'm carrying the 503 in my pocket & a 110 on my belt.. Is this normal? Lol!

Nice Bill, love the Micarta handled 500 series. As for "normal", you sound "knife-knut normal" to me and a good fit at AAPK - now collectively, in the big world, we are anything but normal! OH
Ps We had Grandma's cut from the same cloth - mine bought me the Buck 301 in my signature line for my 15th birthday - I sure miss my wonderful old Grandma Baker!

You've rounded-out the 500 series rather well, from what I've seen. I'm tying to do that, too!
And, yes... Grandmas tend to understand how we like our pocket knives.

Nice Bucks, Garddogg!
I love my 112s -& 110s, for that matter.
The weather in Central Texas is forecast to be in the upper 70s. After church, some friends & I are riding out in search of good Tex-Mex at the end of many road miles.
I think I'll carry one of my old favorites!
*I'm not sure why my 2nd & 3rd pics are mis-oriented, before being selected.

Thanks Dogg, I've been needing a nice example of the block shield. I don't see much difference in the Buck 301 & the Schrade 8OT besides the steel - both knives look similar, they feel the same in the hand, and do the same jobs - only significant difference is that Buck's stay clean and bright, Schrade's get a nice patina. The 1095 steel sharpens quicker than the Buck 420hc. Each has its 'specialities'. You drop it in the leaves and the Buck is easier to find..ha
