Re: O.V.B questions
I'm thinking the New York Knife Company but since Walden Knife Co. employed over 600 workers in 1911 and was the largest knife company in the world at the time (according to Goins) There's no doubt in my mind that the Walden Knife Co had their hands on some part of them at some time in some way. They were located in the same cutlery village at the same time. Not sure though.

Re: O.V.B questions
I know Robeson made knives for HSB, but the examples I've ID'd were circa WWII.
I had a 1910 HSB catalog years ago and the knife section, some of which were in color, looked like New York Knife Company products.
Walden.....NYK.....

Re: O.V.B questions
If I remember correctly, The original several folks who were dismissed by NYKC for playing baseball on company time or something to that are the ones who established Walden Knife Company. And Walden actually at one time contracted knives for NYKC. Interesting Legacy.. BH

Re: O.V.B questions
Bonehead, I bought the catalog at an antique store in the St. Augustine, FL area.
I was thinking at the time about having the cutlery section reprinted and marketing the reprints, only to find that someone had already done that.
I have no idea if those OVB catalog reprints are still available, but you should be able to find one.
The original 1910 catalog I had was snapped up by a knife show participant while I was setting up my Robeson display. By "snapped up", I mean purchased, not stolen. He offered more than I could refuse.

Re: O.V.B questions
I'm almost positive the OVB farmers jack I have is a NYK . That's why I posed this question here.

I would expect HSB used different contractors at various time periods, maybe for specific patterns even??
Sorry BH ,I didn't catch the details of your comments, but I guess we concur about the pattern thing. I was just guessing.

Re: O.V.B questions
Here's a color page I snipped off Ebay this morning. I think this was from a 1913 book.

Re: O.V.B questions
Jacob Jarrett's Price Guide to Pocket Knives has a 56 page section on Hibbard Spencer & Bartlett knives. It appears that all or almost all of the knives are NYK manufactured.

Re: O.V.B questions
BH, that color page was almost certainly in the 1910 catalog I had, as well.
Sorry to say I bought that book for fifty and sold it for a hundred.
There's a 1933 edition on Ebay right now priced at $300.00. That's way too much.
Good luck with your hunt.
Right now on Ebay there are original catalogs for Van Camp, Bingham, Pritzlaff and George Worthington, who, if I'm not mistaken, was a big purveyor of New York Knife Company products.

Re: O.V.B questions
I think the 1933 edition is too late for what I think you're interested in and that's too much money.
That Worthington might be worth requesting additional info from the seller, as he show no pocketknife pages in his auction.
I'll keep my eye out for a good HSB, too.
I'm retired now. I have lots of time to sit here and shop with someone else's money.

Re: O.V.B questions
Doing some Reading/Viewing some older references I have. I did find something I never knew. Camillus Cutlery manufactured the OVB Brand exclusively for HSB for over fifty years.
Here is one that without a doubt is Camillus made, my guess is late 50's if not early 60's. BH
