Johnny is of course right about the BKC#s. To expand a little, when the bulldog knife club was formed in the early 80s, a # was assigned to each knife as it went to a customer. These #'s were used in a booklet that Tony Foster compiled in 1990 listing all of the 1st generation bulldogs along with their value's. When Jim Parker started printing the Pocket Knife Trader's Guides he continued these #s. The 2nd generation knives were assigned #'s with an A, B, or C after the #and were listed with the 1st generation knives. Parker assigned his own #'s to the 3rd generation knives beginning in 1993. They are also listed in his Pocket Knife Trader's Price Guides.

Tom and Johnnie are 100% correct of course. The only thing I would add that not every knife made by Bulldog is in the books. I have quite a few that aren't. I'm sure many Bulldog collectors have come across that.
Also you may run across knives with the "A" or "B", etc. that are being sold as first generation and they are not. See it all the time on eBay.
Part of the confusion may be how the books are set up. The Second Generation knives with the "A" or "B", etc designation are listed in the first generation section. Need to learn how to read the book, but when in doubt, sellers will sell them as first generation. In a few cases the second generation knife is worth more to a collector.
If there are any questions on a possible knife purchase, please be sure to post a question on Bulldog or any other knife for that matter.
Someone will be along to answer, we have a great group here.
