Rogers Bone

Okay, this is prob. a dumb qust. for all you folks. What the heck is Rogers Bone? Come to think of it what does waterfall mean? Thanx, this is a great site.

Waterfall is a celluloid type. If done well, as you move it back and forth, it sort of "shimmers" like pouring/rushing water.

Rogers Bone is/was a particular type of jigging. This may be more than you want to know, but I'm leading you to a good article on Bernard's site.....

Thanx Bill. I read the info and now I know. However, I have seen quite a few knives descr. as Rogers bone that do not look the same to me. Is this a generic term or do people just assume. Where can I see a phot of an actual pattern? Again thanx. i can never learn enuf. Otto

From the various reading that I have done and a few conversations on this subject that I have had, it is my understanding that the most collectible Roger’s bone handled knives are the older Case® branded knives, so that is usually where you see it referenced most.

If I’m not mistaken, Case® would use Roger’s bone when their supply of bone was on the low side. This made for far fewer Case® knives with Roger’s bone than their normal bone handled knives.

I believe there are two distinct Roger’s bone jigging patterns that was used on older Case® knives… (One pattern is older than the other and naturally more collectible)…. All true Roger’s bone handled Case© knives will be XX era or older.

The new stuff that Case® calls Roger’s bone® is a reproduction of the old Roger’s jigging pattern I think. Rogers should consider suing them over it probably.

Let me say for the record...if anyone is keeping score...that I don't own that knife. I'd like to, but I just purloined the picture from Billy Cochrane's website...you can own it for only $2,175.00.

In any event, it's a nice example of the most desireable Rogers jigging pattern...and outside of my reach.

Some collectors will mistakenly refer to ANY older jigged brown bone as "Rogers Bone".....not true...it does refer to the specific bone jigged and colored by Rogers MFG co.....earlier versions in brown, later versions in red.
