The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

The seller of the knife is a lucky person .He seems to find knives that don"t exist or knives the blades are used but the handles are perfect.

Yeah, me too. And the occasional cheap one (under $15-$20 including shipping). I can see where I'm headed. For a while I was a collector. Now I'm turning back into an accumulator.

I just looked at that one on ebay and it is the looooooong underline. There is a clearer picture of it in his listing, though he calls it a four-line stamp.

Good eyes boys. Definitely a long line and definitely a rehandle. Handle pins are too large to be factory, plus even with the poor focus pictures there's evidence in the bolster pin that it's been apart.

......I've never seen a 4line(1914-1941) camillus whittler that wasn't the split-backspring configuration(both secondary blades on opposite end from the primary)........... .......................
Exactly Tommy. I'd be willing to bet the pucker in my butt the first Carpenter's & Whittler's (#72s) were short line made in very late 1945 or sometime in 1946. This one is a long line made in the late 1950s or later.

Brian, it's no secrete what I think. Generally, with these big mitts of mine, anything less than 4 inches is a toy.
But the 72 is the biggest little knife I've ever packed.

Woo Hoo I just slipped one by Jerry and Grant! That's getting harder to do. It's in pretty good shape it seems from the pictures and it comes with an old four line Camillus scout. The scout's blade is pretty worn, but everything ekes looks real good.

Colonel 26: I was watching that one .The seller would not put a set price on postage so I would not bid.( I get postage quotes from $6 to $40 so I have watch what I bid on )
