Now we have a Colonial thread,Show'em

Colonial Knife was incorporated in 1926 by three brothers; Antonio, Domenic, & Fredrick Paolantonio. It grew to become one of the largest pocket knife manufacturers in the US during the 1960s. The company shut down in 1998, but was back into production under the Colonial Cutlery International Corporation in 2001. Colonial Cutlery International, Inc. brand is the imported line of knives and tools while the U.S.A.- made products fall under the Colonial Knife brand.

Did Colonial create the Anvil brand or were they in existence before and when did they start either way?

Hello buck16..... ::handshake::
The Andvil brand was introduced in the late 70's and Colonial made three models.
The baby or smallest one was a three blade, 2 and 3/4" closed and was cat. # 200.
The medium three blade was 3 and 1/2" closed, model # 210. And the large stockman three
blade was 3 7/8" closed and was catalogue # 220....
The Andvil brand was a step up from the Ranger line that was produced many years
earlier. The Andvil blades were all polished 440A Stainless steel blades while all Ranger blades were synthetic wheel ground 1075 High Carbon steel.. ::tu:: ::tu::

I thought I might share a drawing of an exploded version of a large Colonial three blade stockman. I made this over 30 years ago and I think folks will enjoy seeing the parts that are involved with assembling a pocket knife.... ::mdm::

In addition to these parts there are 23 separate assemble and finishing opperations!! That's what it takes to be Cutler!!

Yes Joe, 1,000 Rosewood and 1,000 India Stag, approximately....I am not sure of the exact sales amount, to be perfectly honest. ::shrug::
The yellow Trapper is NOT Colonial made! Hollow ground stainless blades? No pin on rivet? and if you look close enough, it's a solid NS pin assembly, that Colonial Hadn't made in 30 years back then!! We bought these directly from Camillus Cutlery. Not uncomon back then.
The cost of "tooling up" for a knife back then meant several hub and die tools for each part. For the Trapper, it would have meant four bolster tools, one spring tool, two blade tools, and a a liner tool.(one liner tool because with this knife they made it reversable).
At 10-30 grand per tool, you can appreciate the investment involved.. ::dang::

These Trappers are made from the exact same Camillus parts we bought at Heritage and used for our 5,000 pc. Stag Trapper order for Smith and Wesson.! Pay attention here guys..The parts came in with the bolster's spot welded already to the liner's, with pre-drilled assembly holes; even counter sunk for peening and finishing (bolster hefting)...

I say pay attention (Joe) because you said you were going to re-handle the knife!!
Chop it apart at the bolster with a thin, heavy blade of some kind and you'll see what I'm talking about.. I will send you the original Camillus assembly pins and since I have NS and stainless, I'll send you both..This makes things a bunch easier cause after you size and rivet on your handle pins, you put it all together with the pins I send you and just squash it good in a vise. Your going to have to hit the kick and tangs with a hammer to straighten and slack the knife to make your blades drop smooth... you should still have plenty of pin-on rivets but I'll put a bunch in your pin package; I'll send it Monday...
I will send you some brass center Camillus rivets also but I suggest you use the brass Colonial nails you should still have...what the heck, I'll send you some more and even NS center nails too!! ::suspense:: After that wounderful Christmas gift, it's the least I can do to re-assemble that poor, broken back Yellow Trapper!! ::tear::
Try and save the shield buddy; inlay it into your new handle!! Come on Royal Pines Cutlery!! We are all counting on you!! ::ds:: ::ds::

Any further questions about the Trapper please ask!!
Joe, do me one favor.....there's a # on the back of the pocket blade?? Please tell me what # it says because that could very well be the Colonial stock # that I have no record of and don't remember..It looks like # 3, maybe a two????what is it Joe..
Thanks pal, now that everyone knows how to make a Camillus Trapper, I'll take a break!
Robert Paolantonio, Colonial, RAP., and Heritage.... ::super_happy:: ::super_happy::

Here's a 1995 Catalogue pic of the Old Cutler lina and as you can see, the Trapper is missing!! We couldn't afford to buy them anymore..is it all making sence now??? ::hmm::

Thanks for that pile of info on the trapper, Bobby! Sure is good to
have referance to all that. ::tu::

Here is a pic of the No. on the back of the knife.

I have one of your Smith & Wesson Heritage trappers and
they have a few little differences between them.
(Yours is a MUCH better quality knife - not to
mention the stag! ::groove:: Not just blowing smoke either.)

The most notable difference I can think of is the pull on the spey blade
is on the pile side of the knife - both pulls on the S&W are facing
the mark side of the knife.

I will do a picture comparison on the two trappers to show
the the other differences.

BTW About how many of the "Camillus made" Old Cutlers were
made?

Thanks Joe; your bag of goodies and rivets were packed after diner tonight, and will go out Monday as promised...The Camillus Old Cutler Trappers were only around for a few years, since we couldn't afford them any more and we certianly were not in any shape at that point to "tool up" so to speak to make them ourselve's.. ::facepalm::
Thanks for the stock # I guess it was; I'll put it in my notes and further research it....

My kindness of rivets is not just for Joe folks!! Joe K., President of Royal Pines Cutlery shows incredible interest and ability for cutler atributes and anyone else out there that may need some rivets of any kind to repair or fix an old knife, I can help you... ::nod::
Brass pin-on, nails, NS, brass, more than I know what to do with.....please feel free to ask and show a pic of what you need and I will be more than happy to accommodate you....

There will never be a charge for rivet's sent; just buy me a beer when I see you!!!
Bobby P. CKCo...
I thought I would show everyone what is possible with a pile of parts and some knife knowledge....(and lots of time and patience)....

Those are pretty nice as well.

I just don't care for nor wish to own a "Fancy" knife. To me those fileworked springs etc. look like a wonderful place for pocket lint and such to gather. And I carry knives. Don't have one to just look at.

I am FAR more interested in the old Colonial working knives!
