Camillus Restoration With White Tail Antler
This knife is my first completed repair of the New Year.
A customer sent me an old Camillus stockman 3-7/8” in length.
The handles were gone. He said it was his grandfather’s knife and he had carried it every day. He said what was left of the handles were held on with black electrical tape. The handles were completely gone when I received the knife in the mail. The customer also sent me one side of a set of white tail antlers, explaining that the antler was from the last deer his grandfather had killed before he passed away. If possible he wanted me to cut handles from the antlers and put them on the knife.
White tail antler from the South Eastern part of the US seem to be smaller than antler from white tail from the Pacific Northwest, but I was able to get a set from the antler he sent, in spite of the smaller size and curvature of the antler he sent.
The restoration projects I enjoy most are those that are repairing a family keep sake.
This is the final outcome:

Great job Dale! I love seeing Whitetail antler on a knife... and the story behind that one doesn't get any better.
