Buck Bucklock 1 531 Sawby Knife Rare Vintage Box Papers

Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al Buck revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the infamous Model 110 Folding Hunter. The company's innovative history and attention to quality have made for many great collectible knives.

Buck Bucklock 1 531 Sawby Knife Rare Vintage Box Papers

I have this in the General Knife Forum and was told I should repost it here for the Buck knife people.

A Buck Bucklock 1 Model 531 Sawby knife. Knife is mint, box shows just a little shelfwear. All paperwork and sheath. This is a rare knife that Buck discontinued due to safety concerns.

I noticed some of them didn't have the tang markings where the original ones were (like this one) also the others lacked the Pat number on the blade. This one is as close to perfect as I could find in this knife.

PS:I have received the knife and it locks very well.

How does the lock operate?

Is it similar to a liner lock like the electrician knife?

You unlock it by pushing the metal piece with your thumb. It turns a kind of a cam inside the knife.

Very nice - terrific Buck collectible. Alas, so rarely seen I'm like SGT Schultz on this one! OH

Ps There is a very active group of Buck collectors on the Buck sub-forum at The Blade Forums, to include Joe Houser from Buck Knives. You might learn more over there.

PPs From reading what was posted at Blade, it appears you have one of 75 known to be left untouched. Your blade is marked for 1988, so it was made in the first batch (or the blades were made in 88 and the knives assembled in 89.)
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

A Question, if I do in fact have one of the first 75 built (I think I do). Were they recalled ? If so than I might have one in less than 75. What do you all think ?
