New York Knife Co - Is this a Military Knife??
Just wondering if this might be a knife made for the military. New York Knife Co, Hammer Brand, 4-7/8" closed.
A heavy built knife with iron liners, hand peened iron pins, iron bolsters, copper bail. It just does not strike me as a "Navy" knife with the spear blade.

Very similar to a British Army Knife.
Forged on the anvil of discipline.

Interesting, thanks Jerry.jerryd6818 wrote:Very similar to a British Army Knife.
I had thought the can opener on mine was broken, but maybe it was made without a projecting tab. Looks like yours is the same.

The jigging does not look like the typical NYK style. What are the handles made of? I don't think they are bone. Gutta Percha maybe. Or hard rubber? Good looking knife anyhow. Mark.

You can almost bet that was made at the same time as the Keen Kutter ones as copies of the WWI English military knives. Possibly either for the Canadians or for export to the UK. None of them were military marked aside from ones where a soldier carved their ID number on them or stamped it on the bail after flattening it a bit.
I measure my collection by the ton.
