Fake Remington R4466 Bullet muskrat?

I know this knife is not genuine: measures 3 11/16" closed, not 3 3/4", bullet shield is crude with two shield pins showing,
"Remington UMC Made in USA" tang stamps coarse looking - master blade stamp double struck - pattern number stamp off center and very unevenly spaced, grooves on lined bolsters crude looking, blades unfinished looking - grinding marks still apparent., "stag" handles don't resemble any Remington stag Ive ever seen. While the knife looks unused and never sharpened, there is no blade etch. There are more subtle signs though the preceding may be sufficient to substantiate the fakery in this knife.

Anyone knowledgeable who can confirm this would be appreciated. My mother was burned on eBay before she passed trying to by me a birthday present - I guess she didnt find out til after she bought it that it was a phoney. I found it in her home - she never mentioned it and I want to confront the seller since the statute of limitations for fraud perpetuated against the elderly is 4 years - the seller listed it as original vintage and she paid over $700 for it. My condolences Bill, I don't know how all of the legallities play out on ebay but if you have any problems with ebay themselves I think that you have to go through the FBI to touch them and I imagine it would have to be quite a substantial claim to get them to make a move on it. As for the USA sellers on ebay you probably need to consult a lawyer but I would try running the whole story past an ebay supervisor. You will probably get the treatment on the other end as if you are talking to a brick wall or they seem like they're doing several other things and what you are saying is going in one ear and out the other. Don't feel singled out .This is how they operate and how they were trained to deal with situations and we all get this treatment. In the end after they nod and grin and reassure you that they are there and that they are listening and you have worn yourself down it will probably be basic ebay policy that is explained to you and determines the outcome. For instance, her purchase was under ebay's buyer protection warranty with a 14 day money back guaranty had she only contacted ebay or the seller or both.Beyond that will probably just be wasting more of your time which they have the best training and skills to do so and are very willing and able. You could try talking with the seller but thats a big chunk of change to come up with because they want to believe your story. They may have bought the knife thinking it was legit themselves and sold it how long ago? back whenever ??? And now X months down the road you show up and they can't remember if it's even the same knife. *** And, what if the seller is an elderly as well? What if they think that you are the one trying to commit fraud against the elderly? I don't think that I would go beyond talking to ebay on this one since your not the original purchaser. I am 100% positive the knife shown is neither authentic nor genuine. I'm not sure who is responsible for the manufacture of said knife but I've seen them on Ebay occasionally. I'd venture a guess of maybe once or twice a year. A copy of the auction for that knife would be the next step , to see if it was represented as a genuine Remington Bullet. Most of the time if the seller knows its a fake, they will word the auction so that they can't be held liable for the knife.

Thanks, all. I already have copies of the original listing and the PayPal transaction and the listing as it is displayed in my mother's eBay purchase history and I already know how to go about prosecuting the seller. The transaction was on 3/28/2012 and while eBay is off the hook, the seller is not and eBay will gladly throw him under the bus when he is investigated by law enforcement for fraud, hence the disclaimer in every listing, "Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing."

I'm here at the knife forum for knife advice, not legal advice...to have the fakery of the knife validated by another collector or collectors with credentials, if possible.

I am not certain about this but I believe there are people that authenticate knives for a fee.
Very experienced and well respected in the industry.
This may be what you need so that it would be respected in a court of law weather it's civil or criminal.
You already know it is a fake! I am no expert but if it helps I believe that knife is a fake.
