Hi All, Didn't know where to put this one...

I'm sort of looking for any info on this one...nothing special, not certain when or where I got it, PIC/JAPAN tang stamp, no other markings that I can find. Main blade sharp as a razor and I've never sharpened it (might be why it's still sharp ). Has wear, been used, some spots here and there, walks and talks like a quality knife. Made in Japan makes me wonder if that's true regardless of that country having some of the best made blades in the world (IMHO) because of the swords they make but I don't know the reality of it. Knife has 11 utensils. Everything necessary except a spoon, it's an early survival knife and that's about all I know. How early is the real question.

I do a daily search for Boy Scout knives on ebay and I see a LOT of those listed. I'm not sure when they were made but I'd guess perhaps 1990s or more recent. They are inexpensive and of modest quality. Every one I've seen had that same distinctive jigging pattern in the handles. I owned one for a while but it found a new home during a knife exchange some time back.

Very similar to the Japanese camp knives that have been made for years and came in the pouch.

my guess they were made round 1960's to 1990's GIVE ERR TAKE

I believe these were first made in the early 1950's in Japan.Haven't seen one made in Germany although they probably exist.The characteristic diamond shaped jigging is the giveaway.They even made miniature versions.See the two top knives in this picture.Background squares are 1 inch.

Ok, thanks for tryin guys, now it's narrowed down to from sometime in the '50's to present day.

Actually that's much more than I knew before. I will say I doubt it was a boy scout knife and I know it's newer. I remember it being around as a younger adult (I'm 57 or so now) but don't remember how it came into my possession. No one in my family was ever a boy scout. But we did belong to the Indian Guides when I was real young.

I found some info that said these were sailor knives in WWII. Or very similar to them. Since my Dad served four years during WWII I was kinda hoping that was true. It would make some sense because my Dad had a fair amount of pocket knives. I don't think he would have had any seriously cheap ones, common ones for sure, cheap, no.
I wish I could remember the first time I saw this knife but I can't. Oh well...Thanks. I'll keep lookin.

Randy to clarify what I posted earlier, this is NOT a Boy Scout knife, however it's common for sellers on ebay to list them as such. Apparently they think because the knives have a multitude of blades they must be a scout item.

BTW- knife7knut; That's a nice collection! I see it is drawer 4, you must organize by type and brand?

That gets my AADD cap to purring.... I have an old machinists tool box in the basement with felt lined drawers that isn't doing much, I think I just found a good use for it! Even though I don't consider myself a 'collector' I do have a fair amount of knives that could use some consolidation and a safe place to reside besides the junk drawer in the kitchen where they have been for the last 25 years.

That gets my AADD cap to purring.... I have an old machinists tool box in the basement with felt lined drawers that isn't doing much, I think I just found a good use for it! Even though I don't consider myself a 'collector' I do have a fair amount of knives that could use some consolidation and a safe place to reside besides the junk drawer in the kitchen where they have been for the last 25 years.

I catalog them like that to facilitate finding them easily.That particular cabinet has 24 drawers that hold anywhere from 30 to 60 knives each. I have a smaller cabinet with 12 drawers for small knives that has about 700 knives in it.Several machinists' tool chests(make GREAT knife storage)with varying numbers of knives and straight razors plus several suitcases for larger knives and several display cases. It's hard to stop after 60 years of collecting.
