Thank you Trevor and Gino. I've been lucky, finding a few made here in Pennsylvania. Gino, did you ever hear of Glassport, Pa.? American Axe and Tool was there. They were a conglomerate of 14 different axe manufacturers for awhile. http://www.yesteryearstools.com/Yestery ... 20Co..html

Here's a rare Red Warrior head, about 100 years old, that was made by Mann in Lewistown, Pa. while they were part of that group. They were marked AMERICANAX with Glassport, PA. in tiny letters beneath it. It was thick with rust and the handle was broken off inside. I got it off a table at the flea market for $2.50.

Trevor do you still have those old logging photos?

Yes I do, they are from a book titled Kinsey Photographer. A google search should find many of the images.

Here is a hatchet I picked up in trade this month at the flea market.
No markings on it, about 3-3/4” wide & 2-1/4” on the cutting edge.
Now I just have to find a handle to fit it.

Wow. what a neat site. Those dowels at the end would make a great pole for American flags I keep in my front yard.

Thanks Mike.

Here's something else you'll like Joe. Making axes by hand in Maine, mid 60s just before this shop closed.

A recent find, a very old, unmarked Pennsylvania pattern double bit axe.

Here's a good video of an axe being made at Gransfors Bruks in Sweden and then being put to use.

Now you've got me interested in Gransfors Bruks Dimitri. It's a very interesting company, they even have axe forging and log building classes there. http://www.gransforsbruk.com/en/
