Just run a double strand of electric fence one at 8" and one at 18". Turn it all the way up. You should be able to get most of what you need pretty cheap. I used to find miles of it on abandoned farms in rural Virginia and North Carolina. Sometimes even the control boxes would still be their in their enclosures.

Thanks Garry! Now that mention ducks I forgot to add 2 ducks to last Monday's slaughter death toll. Sorry to hear about your pets also. Additionally, I forgot to mention a very sweet cat we have named Bella that got attacked by a dog on OUR property (wife saw it happen) about 2 months ago. Mostly a 5 year old house kitty and a bit chunky so she is not as agile as the other two we have when outdoors. All still have their claws, personally don't believe in removing their defensive weapons. Freaking dog almost killed her and $600 later (most vets would charge $1500 for same care) she is almost 100%. Sewn in drainage tubes, constant home therapy, meds and care and the whole nine yards.

Thanks for the suggestion IH! Will ponder that as I am concerned even with warning signs about legal ramifications as far as people are concerned. One side of the 3 properties has 2 driveways along a busy street with people walking by often. I have seen times when dogs will just walk up the driveway, path of least resistance and all. If a woman can spill a coffee on her crouch and sue McDonalds for a million bucks and win...

Funny how the owner of the dog told the AC Officer that he "had 3 layers of fencing and just could not keep them in". Now that he was hit with a $1100 fine and the possibilty of someone harming his dog based on his laziness, he got the motivation to fix his fences or whatever. Really sad.
Some of these dogs are just lost and I am cool with that, it happens. Some are constantly roaming and up to no good, looking to kill or attack, due to their idiotic owners. Not hard to spot the difference. Alot of dogs have gone feral due to abandonment for economic or whatever reasons. Many attacks have occurred recently around here and one poor soul I believed was killed by a pack of feral dogs, mostly in rural areas though. Looks like for now I will be dusting off the paintball gun (turned up to highest velocity). Painted a few before years ago for attacking my cats and I just call Animal Control and tell them I did it in case someone calls in. Can't carry a paintball gun around all the time so I will be carrying a peacemaker 24/7 as well. Really hate to go there as it is not the dogs fault. Seems the only way these owners attention is gotten is when the dog does not come home or they get fined.

Before I got one of my dogs 3 or 4 years ago, I have had several instances in the past 10 or 15 years when working in the yard I turn to find a dog in a aggressive posture growling and not backing off with the usual yells, etc. I am on MY PROPERTY and I have to be concerned about that? One dog fled when he heard the slide on my auto and the other 2 requiring a warning shot to disperse. No more warning shots will be given. I am sick of this crap.

My 90 pound rescue mutt that will scale his 5 foot fence enclosure when he has to do his job on his own or is instructed to, has really limited the tresspassing and dogs (sometimes three large ones at a time) from the property. Dog is fearless and a great protector. He does roam free on the property when he wants but does not leave the property and scales the fence back into his enclousure when commanded to do so or when he wants to. If he did roam, I would build the fence higher or somehow ensure he did not get out. Not sure why he did not intervene when the mayhem took place last week.

If an Admin or Moderator feels my post is out of line, I apologize and please delete it. Rant over!

Maybe my venting will help someone else from losing a pet or livestock.

Jerry,
Many years ago, when we were in the cow business, we had constant issues with dogs and newborn or young calves. No animal control back then but the Sheriff advised me that "If you ask your neighbor to keep up their dogs, he'll know who is probably responsible for Fido not coming home." He went on to say, "Do what needs to be done and keep your mouth shut." In today's Politically correct society you'll get more time in jail for killing a dog than a human. There was a news clip in our area a few weeks ago about a video on facebook where a girl was trying to kick a goose that was being aggressive and when she could be identified she would be charged with animal cruelty. We live in a crazy world. Sorry about y'alls critters.

1 Tank and sissy kissing lol.

2 Tank telling sissy not to come around his boy.It took him awhile to learn to trust her around the kids.

3 Now could you reset a face like that?

Sissy is do to have her pups any day now she is about twice the size of the pic of her. Poor kid.

After looking at the expanded picture, it looks like the old dog couch cover sheet needs a bath ::hmm::

Cutty: I have not seen the Great Dane "sit" for many years. Does Sophie do the sit on your lap sometimes? My Dane, long gone, did the sit on people, furniture, whatever. LOL. Sophie is a pretty girl.

Thanks Gino ::tu:: .

QS, the crazy thing is she's an AKC registered Chocolate Lab but she is very long and tall. Supposedly the Chocolates are the larger of the breed. She was at the dog park in Destin, Florida and towered over other Labs by a few inches. Yes, she will get in your lap if you let her but it's like having a horse in your lap  She is an absolute sweet heart however so she usually gets to be a lap dog when she wants to but it's really not that often.

JBug, that's not all she get's blamed for. Sometimes there are crazy sounds followed by a awful smell around here that she immediately gets blamed for ::rotflol:: ::paranoid::

Like junebug said: all great pictures.

Cutty: the "Great Dane Sit" is notorious. (When sat upon by a Dane one knows he has been sat upon.) It is a patented and licensed maneuver and I am sure your beautiful lab obtained the requisite permissions. :)

Josh, are those dogs takin' after their papa ? sleepin' on the job. ::zzz:: Purdy pups ::tu::

QS She must have gotten permission. :) She's the first of several labs that I've had over the years that does the things she does. They all have a different personality but hers is definitely unique.

Bailey and Sybil our cat and dog have both gone to the rainbow bridge in the past year. At my wife's urging we rescued this guy from the pound a couple of months ago. He has at last finally settled in and accepted his new lot in life. Do not let the photos mislead you he is just meaner than a bob cat. The tiles on the hearth behind him are 1 foot square to give an idea of his size. He fits in okay, you just have to give him his distance. Named him Henry after the King.

Cool critter pics All!

Been rather cold here last 3 days. From lows of -28F to -18F and highs near + 20F. Needless to say the snow that fell 5 days ago is still here. The dogs love the snow.

Funny pic of the dogs. My big mutt likes to sit right in my labs lap, snow or not.

Our 9 month old kitty got her head stuck in a plastic bag hand hold.

I don't think she liked Santa all that well, and she wanted none of that..
