Couple of fixed blades

Post by TimW »

Tell me a little something about a couple fixed blade knives a guy just give me.

Image

The first one has what looks like cat guy wrapped around the handle. Don't know why and I've not removed it yet to see.

The following information is on the blade.
U.S.N. Mark 1 (one side)
RH PAL 35 Made in USA (the other side)
Metal Pommel

The other blade.
Robeson Shuredge No. 20(one side)
U.S.N.(the other side)
Looks like leather handle with metal guard and wood pommel

Condition of both would be "well used" I believe the Robeson has most of its blade even though it scuff up quite a bit. The leather handle and wood pommel appear to be in used but good condition. In other words the pieces of leather are tight with dings in it. The wood pommel has no chips out of it but does have dings on it.

The other one appears to have been cleaned some and the blade has little more wear.

Thanks,
Tim

Well, you have a good start on a Navy Mk1 collection. And there are a lot of variations. About 40. Other companies that made these include Colonial, Boker, Ka-Bar, Western, Imperial, Schrade Walden, Camillus. The US Navy needed a bunch of these quick, with the outbreak of WW2. The most common of US military knives. As you can see from your two versions, there were more than one pommel type used. Aluminum, Black plastic, wood, and flat steel.
