Morning gents, looks like quite a few of us are enjoying the great outdoors. This is my current view, right about sunrise; saw one big coyote dash across the opening about 40 minutes ago and am currently enjoying a bunch of turkey yelping in the woods just to my right side. Still looking for Mr. Big Buck to arrive. Enjoy! OH

Saw 8 does and zero, zilch, nada bucks today but tomorrow is a new day! A little chilly, not sure if it got above freezing and I didn't get my heater working until after lunch.

Don't worry you may have time left! Here in So Cal it is all over for rifle season.
I got 1 a 3x3 and am happy, though had 1 tag I didn't fill. On to Duck season
which looks good, so many ponds didn't fill cause of our extreme dry year,
they are all in a few places, most of which I know. So it is gumbo or done in a pit
duck!
Keep up the hunt!

Pretty Pic Wishful!

The son had never been out in the RZR UTV yet and I have never had it out in the snow. Going 50 mph across the snow (about 8 to 10 inches) covered desert in this vehicle is something else. We had a blast. He drove and I had a beer or three. We came back and he proceeded to do doughnuts and power slides thru the 8 inches of snow around the property for the following hour. We had a great time. Just thought I would share a few pics. They came out real nice for a camera phone in my opinion and what a beautiful view. One of these may well end up as my desktop background. They also enlarge pretty good.

I'll put the NTC at Fort Irwin CA up to anything for miserable in the summertime or wintertime (got a couple of rotations under my belt). I always thought the desert was beautiful at dawn and dusk, but that was it - the photo's Jerry took are of a much more senic area than the Mojave around Barstow/Nebo/Irwin. OH

Thanks Gents for the compliment on the pics. I thought the scenry was beautiful and I was suprised the pics came out nice for a 6 megapixel cell phone camera. I love the woods too but the desert has it own beauty too. Nice thing is those pics were taken about 1 mile from the house. I live on the edge of town so I just drive my UTV 1/4 of a mile down the road and it opens up to 10s of thousands of acres of BLM land for hunting, hiking, shooting and all things outdoors. Even some small ponds for fishing or hunting at the waterhole if you know where they are and have a vehicle that can get there.

JerryD, yes Sir, 29 palms is a pretty unforgiving area. I know it was not uncommon for soliders on exercises out there to get seperated from their units and be lost for days or worse.
Next to 29 Palms is one of the prettiest desert places on the planet, in my opinion, Joshua Tree National Monument. I love going out there when it is really cold or unbearably hot (but I am not dressed in full battle gear with a 60 pound pack either, that probably is not so much fun), less people.

If you guys are ever in the Palm Springs area, it drive thru Joshua Tree is well warranted in my opinion. Probably can find some cool pics on the web too.

Had our first annual Christmas Eve mission,.....took 7 kids and 2 adult nephews to Jay B Starkey Park to drink in the outdoor spirit!!

Yes.......one of the kids fell of the log into the drink.....it was hilarious! We had a good time and came back to the pavillion for some bacon and scrambled eggs.

Looks like y'all had a great time ! Scott, the bottom picture reminds me of the creek I grew up on, lots of palmettos, big trees and a winding creek with a deep hole every so often that was full of fish! Every so often, my Dad would ask me to go and catch him a dozen "golden shiners" so he could go catch a bass after work. Must be gettin' old, seeing the kids on the tree and reminiscin'. Have to admit or confess (hope the statute of limitations has run out), as a ten year old boy, I used to shoot bass with a single shot .22 when they would be swim over a shallow, sandy place where a tree would lean over the creek. This was the same place I heard a panther scream one evening when camping out, needless to say we headed for the hill and slept in the house the rest of the night! The good ol' days before sewage treatment plants were dumped into the nearest creek and all the cow pastures were filled with subdivision houses.

Been over a month since there's been any Outdoorsman Thread activity, since we're still deer huntin' in the Florida panhandle, thought I'd post another picture of some more meat. Another 4 point this morning, no forks, just long curved spikes with little brow tines. He'll eat good! Played with him for about half an hour with a grunt. He stayed back in some pines for a good while and finally gave me an open shot. He dove off in some thick junk so I had to get Miss Joy's dog to go find him.
