Could anyone tell me how to date this Bulldog - Moose Peacock Abalone Stockman? The tangs do not have a date stamp. The clip blade is etched BD 002, does anyone know how many were made?

That is from 1993. Surgical Instrument Steel started in 1993 which is when Jim Parker was running Bulldog Knives. The 1993 Texas Jack pattern (the name they chose to use instead of Moose, first generation was Moose) had a date 1993 for carbon steel or was marked Surgical Inst. Steel. 1993 was the beginning of the third generation. 100 were made with a 2007 mint book value of $150.00. It also has BKC 1036 as it's BKC number.

In order to know this knife and a lot of others, you would need The Pocket Knife Trader's Price Guide vol. 8.

Looks like I changed while you were writing, had to check first generation references since some are there in this pattern and configuration. I know olderdogs1 will have the exact answer, but I think BKC 1036 is correct. I have heard Moose and Texas Jack used interchangably.

Yes, 780 has an acorn but is a Muskrat.

Hukk is right on as usual on the Texas Jack/ Moose Pattern.

Surgical Inst. on the tang of any bulldog almost always dates it 1993.
It is interesting to note that BKC#273-C, the only bulldog with the abalone handles listed with the 1st generation Moose Pattern knives, is actually a 3 blade stockman with an acorn shield. There were only 5 of these made. THey are easily confused with BKC#981.

THe difference is the older knife, BKC#273-C is tang stamped S&D and the main blade is etched 1 of 5, whereas 981 is tang stamped Surgical Inst. and is serial #d 1 to 100.
Those Bulldog Moose Patterns are some of my favorites.
