real Winchester?
I know Winchester bought older knife companies as opposed to Remington retooling their own factories
I think Napanoch and Walden were two
with a loup I can barely make out Winchester, only one side of main has markings I can barely see
looks like three lines, second line, right of center I see a K and maybe a 2?
third line has, of.. in..us, there was more there but gone now, this is on shield side of main
3 3/8 equal end, double ended jack? or is it a Senator pen, even though it has a clip main and pen?
looks like real bone, brass liners and NS bolsters, bar shield, can't find it in Steward's book, but I have more books to search through.

Re: real Winchester?
Thanks Joe, like I said, I just got into this and am learning by trial and error
I had to start buying as I am learning, not the recommended way
but I have gotten lucky, although ebay is tricky, the descriptions are not like the stores here, but it is a real hunt
that little Winchester has good walk and talk, except the master blade does not snap shut and has slight wobble, very little
don't know if it grades out good or very good, just guessing

Here is one of my Winchesters that looks some thing like yours. This one is 3 5/8 inches closed but no long pull on the clip blade.

Re: real Winchester?
The original posted knife looks like a Winchester to me based on the bone and the tooling. I think that it is an early one pre the merger with Keen Kutter/Walden Knife Co.

Re: real Winchester?
thanks Steve
I will have hit the books some more
I see that they acquired Napanoch and Eagle in 1919
then in 1922 Winchester merged with Simmon, who owned Walden
Walden was closed in 1923 and workers and equipment moved from NY to Con
so that was the end of Walden knife Co, correct me if I am wrong
does that mean my knife may have been made in the old eagle factory in New Haven Ct?
or did all the eagle and Napanoch stuff go to Winchesters factories in New Haven?
I will keep digging because I am from Orange County NY and very familiar with Walden and Napanoch and Ellenville and that area is so prominent in pocket knife history

Re: real Winchester?
Thanks Harold, glad you said that, I have been collecting for about 6 months now and learning as I go
I don't have a narrow preference yet, do like old, don't want too many Case
I have some nice pearl too
I really like the history, the craftsmanship and the hunt
the sense of comradery here and the way most folks think we are crazy
it is a addiction for me or at least a obsession
I am going to keep showing what I have to learn more until people stop responding
I think the money I have spent is still there , only in knives not in the bank, at least that is what I tell the non knife loving folks in my life

Re: real Winchester?
The whole tang mark is "Winchester" "Trade Mark" "Made in the U.S.A." in three lines. Steve Pfeiffer is correct in that this is an early Winchester, pre-1924 when the marketing association with Simmons started. Most of the early Winchesters did NOT have a pattern number stamped on them. Likewise for the post-1933 Winchesters; the ones made from 1924-33 were generally numbered.

Re: real Winchester?
I just read, in the 2d edition Voyles antique knife book that initially winchester forged their blades before they perfected their stamping process.
wonder if my older Winchester has a forged blade? can anyone tell by the photos, I can take more
the choil is distictive, very deep and almost hooked
