Guys I could use some prayer......

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

Guys I could use some prayer......

Post by Colonel26 »

Guys I could use some prayers.

Saturday 2 weeks ago I noticed some flashing floaters in my left eye, then a blurry spot just north of center. Sunday it was worse. Monday I took off and went to the optometrist I've been going to since I was 5. He did a retinal scan and saw what looked like a detached retina. Within two hours I was at one of the top 5 retina specialists in the country and told I'd probably have emergency surgery. He put me through an hour or so of tests that most have been devised in hell, it was bad.

Short story I have a swelling behind my retina that's caused, for lack of a better term, a growth. So that day I got two shots in my eyeball and a super high dose of steroids to take at home. The good news is it's working. The place has gone down by half in a week and my vision has improved.

Here's the bad news. I never take any medicine, healthy as a horse. So when he put me on twice the normal dose of steroids, it was bad. I've gone through a little over a week of emotional hell, and I don't use that word lightly. Depression, sobbing, lethargy, worthlessness, it's been bad guys. I've wanted to ask for your prayers for a while, but just didn't have the gumption to do it.

Monday the Dr cut my dose in half since my eye is responding and things have gotten better. But it's still a minute by minute thing. Please pray that the steroids do their job and in three weeks I can cut the dose in half again. The Dr wants to walk me down off them as the eye gets better.

I always knew that steroid use was not good unless needed for a medical reason. But why in the world any athlete would subject themselves to what I've been through is beyond me!

Thanks guys in advance.

Prayers for healing and a smoother ride to wellness have been lifted up here. Hopefully the worst of this is now behind you. I'm glad you are improving even if it's an unpleasant cure you've had to endure.

Colonial26,
Praying the Lord will bless your eye with a quick recovery and give you the tolerance to complete your medication as needed. After all, He is the Great Physician!

Wade, I will be praying too.
May the Lord give you peace in the turmoil caused by the medication.

Wade, I'm so sorry that you are going through this, but as other have said, so far the medication is helping. That's something positive!

Don't be down on yourself, like it's something you caused. Sometimes it's just bad luck. Look at me...I was 41 years old four years ago, in decent shape with no health risk factors, and ended up with bypass surgery. I could have gotten really depressed, but I guess I just accepted for what it was. I was actually more worried about my family than myself, and what I was putting them through.

Anyways, chin up buddy. You'll beat this.

Colonel,

In times of great suffering, I take great comfort knowing that Christ has, in solidarity with us, fully entered into this suffering and has given us hope through his resurrection. One of my favorite passages is Romans 8 and right in the middle of talking about sin, Paul starts talking about the physical world, noting that all of creation groans in suffering, as if all God's creature are in childbirth waiting for Christ to return and for the whole creation to be redeemed.

It's grim, I guess, to think of all creatures joining voices in a symphony of suffering. But, it's expectant suffering.

In any event, know that you are not alone.

Thank you guys, I'm a whole lot better. I'm not hitting all 8 cylinders just yet, but I'm close.

It was wild. Your mind telling you one thing and your emotions another. I was a wreck. I appreciate all your prayers and good thoughts. God bless you all!

Glad to hear our prayers were answered and that you are feeling much better!

I have had similar reactions though of less severity to medications and they are NOT FUN!

Thank you so much guys, I know that your prayers are making a difference. The mental/emotional stuff is mostly gone. I'm still having some medicine related physical issues, but I'm handling it better.

Tomorrow I get to cut the dose in half again. I'll finally be down to a normal human dose of steroids! Praise be unto God!

The good part is through all this I've had time to watch to bay for pocket knives. I've been wearing out the Camillus 69's and Western 742's, lol. I think I got two last week, have one in the mail, and just paid for another. I better get well before I go broke!
