SCHRADE MULTI TOOL,WHO CAN REPAIR?

Post by cattaraugus57 »

This Schrade Multi toll is a replacement for one I bought new and some ^***%$#@ stole out of my truck :x
Of all things the Knife Blade is broken off!..Dale sent me a new one(thanks again!).
BUT I haven't been able to find a Rivet or someone that can finish the Rivet off.
I will settle for even a Bras Rivet or ?? at this point I just want the Tool in working order.

Can anyone help?

thanks guys!

You just want this for a working tool, right?

Get a picture of it with all the blades open (so you can figure out what goes where). Drill out the old rivet (or grind the head off with a Dremel, whatever). Replace it with a machine screw, with an unthreaded shank the length of the combined thickness of the blades and handle. Attach the nut on the end of the screw, make sure it is exactly how you want it. Then set the nut with stud and bearing grade Locktite.

I've done a couple like this when doing mods or repairs. If you can't find a screw with the unthreaded shank the right length, you can do like any home mechanic and use a washer or two (one on each side) to adjust the length.

Depending on where you are, and if you have access to a shop that handles a lot of hardware or not, you might have to order it in. Check the diameter of the shank of the old rivet and match that as close as you can--I seem to recall using metric machine screws, but it has been a while.

I may have a brass cutlers rivet long enough to fix it.
If it is not too thick I may even have a nickel silver or stainless one.

Thanks guys, I know I could have put a Machine Screw in it, but I really would like it to be a more permanent fix.
Looks like the unfinished length of the Rivet would have to be around 3/4"

I have some long brass cutlers rivets that would give 1/2" overlap inside and still give 3/4" of room for the handle.

PM me your address & I will send you one.
