Help me with my Remington knife PLEASE!

Post by mypepsi5 »

I have a Remington knife, two blades, that has R4473 on one of the blades, and Remingtom UMC inside a circle. Around the outside of the circle is Made in USA. Can anyone tell me a year for this? Or somewhere I can look? I've looked all through this site, I think, because I am starting to go around in circles. I've tons of knives that I need to catalogue and this site has been extremely helpful so far! I think I know more about Case and Remington knives now than I ever dreamed I'd need to know. It's fun though!
So, can someone out there help a poor novice??? Thanks!
Deb

Hello Deb,

The R4473 is what I would call an equal end pen knife. Knives with Remington UMC inside the circle and Made in USA outside date between 1924 and 1933. According to Jim Sargent's "American Premium Guide to Knives and Razors", They are worth $225 with straight bolsters and $250 with slant bolsters.

Thanks for the help! I think I need to get one of those books! My husband recently inherited hundreds of knives, mostly Case and Remington along with more pistols and rifles than I care to have around. <Sigh> I guess that's what I get for marrying an outdoorsman spawned from another outdoorsman! But he enjoys looking at them, and they came from his dad...so I guess I understand.
Once again, thanks for your help! Maybe I can pick your brain again if I run into anything I can't find on the internet????
