Re: camillus #72
Today's mail. '50s or very early '60s Camillus 1047 with the 1st Class shield and main saber ground on both sides. Very good condition for these knives and these handles (black synthetic). I have another out getting new blades but it isn't home yet and I couldn't pass this one up for the price.

Re: camillus #72
So you're the one that got that one. Had I known you were bidding I wouldn't have sent him the message about the handles being bone. I hope it didn't run the price up on you. That's the first bone handle I've seen from that particular era that is just a plain vanilla Camillus 72 (Not ducks on the blade or made for Harley Davidson, etc).
Oops, I see I ran the price up on you. You beat me by a dollar. I wouldn't have bid if I'd known you were going after it.

Here's a stepchild I got for cheap. The walk and talk is great and so is the grind on the back. As a total amateur knife mechanic, but someone who has handled tools, I'm going to try to sweeten up the pins and bolsters. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Other wise a solid knife. (I hope that tang holds up)

Joe -- A file and various grits of sandpaper should fix that feller up quite nicely. Looks like the blades were replaced and he didn't get back to finishing the job. A little work and it's going to be a pretty decent knife.

Could be, Jerry. I thought it came home in a lunch box and someone never got around to finishing it.jerryd6818 wrote: Joe -- A file and various grits of sandpaper should fix that feller up quite nicely. Either way I hope to make it more presentable.

Re: camillus #72
This is what they look like when they're not finished. Note the pattern on the end of the pin from the tooling that squeezes them.
I've changed my mind. The blades have not been replaced. I see the remains of that factory pattern on the pin in your fourth picture down. Your knife may have been one of the unfinished knives sold at the auction after the factory closed down and who ever got it tried to finish it but couldn't or lost interest.

Re: camillus #72
Another one for the pile. Found this bone handled Canillus short-line, paired up with a Utica jack knife and going for cheap. Seller said, "Just a couple of "SHOOTERS"----The Camillus is 3 3/4" --bone --and the Kutmaster --celluloid --is 3 1/2" . Bothe are used --the Camillus has cracks and both knives have lazy blades."
He wasn't just woofin. Four of the five blades (between both knives) were so "lazy" you had to push them closed. A few rounds in the sonic cleaner and some go juice later they all have their snap back. The snap on the Camillus 72 main blade is a little soft but it still snaps and all the others have good snap now. After the sonic cleaner and oil, I put in some time with the lead pencil and some Mothers Mag Cleaner. They're lookin' pretty good now.
