Knife for Canada Day

On this day (July 1) in 1867, the British North American Provinces (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, & Nova Scotia) united to form the Dominion of Canada. This little pen knife was made by Boker in 1907. It depicts the provincial shields as they existed at that time, from left to right in order of joining the federation. Some have changed design since then. Alberta and Saskatchewan, previously part the Northwest Territories, just joined as provinces a few years earlier in 1905. New Foundland remained a British colony until 1949 and thus is the current province not depicted on the knife.

I might be WRONG (I have been before) If GEN. George Washington did what he was told to do in some town where GEN. Benedict Arnold was charging one side of the town (He even got shot) and George was to charge the other side but he did NOT. It was to be our 14th colony. Then their would not have been any Canada of today. This was like the 3rd time General Arnold was crossed by USA and, one big reason he quite and went back to England's side. Our first trader.

Yup pers I was almost right. With no support of George Washington (He did not even show up I heard). General Montgomery being dead and his me running for their lives. Colonel Arnold was left to do it all, and failed.
That was what I wanted thanks for pointing out the facts right.
Yes if Quebec City was won and held by USA then no Canada as we know it today.
Who knows if Colonel Arnold had help then and other times he might not be our first trader.

Hi Ken. I believe you are talking about the attack on Quebec City in late 1775 and early 1776. With the support of Goerge Washington... the plan involved Colonel Arnold and General Montgomery. Having previously taken Montreal, Montgomery was to attack from one side and Arnold the other. Had they been successful they would have defeated the British and controlled the province. The British discovered the plot; Montgomery was killed and his forces decimated. They retreated leaving Arnold and his troops who were not able to make any progress. Despite being shot in the leg and the arrival of reinforcements, Arnold and the Americans retreated. Who knows what might have resulted if the plan had worked. On the basis of his heroic behaviour during the attack on Quebec, Arnold was promoted to General. However, he had some issues subsequently.

It seems generally accepted that the first commemorative knife was the Schrade kentucky rifle, as issued by AG Russel. I'd say this Boker beats that by many, many years. It is a real commemorative, celebrating the anniversary of a relatively important event.

Boker has issued a lot of commemoratives over the years, I'd say too damn many, diluting the whole idea behind them. But this knife is special. Thanks for showing it off, and I hope Canada Day was a good one for all of you up there.
