Old knife, help identifying?

I was given an old knife by a relative, I believe it looks like Swiss army? I was just wondering if anyone could help me identify it, I do not know much about it just that it is quite old, and are old knifes like this worth anything?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Welcome to AAPK. Glad to have you aboard.

Could you please post a shot of the tang stamp (on the main blade)? Without that, it appears to me to be a product of the far east but I could be mistaken. Even though there are several companies throughout the world that made copycats, (those from the far east being the least desirable) Victorinox and Wenger are the only makers of the true Swiss Army Knife (SAK), issued to and carried by the Swiss Army.

I haven't got it with me right now but I'll take a look, I couldn't see much on it. This thing has to be at least 50 years old and probably older though, it was owned by some grandparents. Even if it's that old it can still be a fake or something? Sorry I don't know much about knives

Junbug,I think you are right on. That is most likely a Colonial from what I can see. They are decent knives. Barnfarbob could git US to 100% but I'm 95% sure that Junbug is right.

I don't think it's a fake. It's simply a cheaper knife inspired by the Swiss Army knife. A fake would have Wenger or Victorinox on the tang stamp.

I believe it was made in France and the 50 year old timeline is about right.I have several similar knives and they range from crude to over the top.The giveaways are the shape of the screwdriver blade,the reinforcing washers on the pivot pins and the can opener.The awl looks to be one of the hollow styled ones which usually are on high end knives but this one looks low to mid grade.Still a nice knife.Here are a couple of mine.

That's why you come here. There's guys here that know lots about knives (I'm not one of them) and are willing to share their knowledge. All you need to do is present good clear pictures. It's a rare occasion when they come up dry. Just hang tight and wade through all the messin' around.

OK. I'm not an expert on Wenger or Victorinox but to me this looks like a quality knife. There are four things that standout. The first is the awl. Not bent but ground. Second is the rivet (?) on the left side. looks like it might be a screw/brass insert (can you post a pic of the other side?) Third is the bail. Look at the scribe work. Although it is somewhat small in relationship to the rest of the knife. And fourth is the cross inlay. Is it SS or pearl?

As I said. Not an expert but if I saw one for sale I'd pick it up fer sure.

Just out of curiosity what makes you disprove it as a Colonial? Although I have never seen a Colonial SA type knife? (And I probably agree with you on this because of the things that I have stated.)

If you look at the two bottom knives in this photo you will see what a Colonial SAK looks like.

The shape and style of the handle, the shield, the pins, the bail... just the overall look of the knife doesn't look like anything I've seen from Colonial before. Their scout style knives have a much different appearance to them. (from what I've seen)
