Yea,,, the original is neither good or bad, just not my style.
Kinda defeats the handy minimalist design of a B&T knife IMO.
I'll stick it back in the packing tube and keep it for posterity.

I'm a +1 on the large bolded sentence.

I'm not sure which direction your rating scale operates. +1 could mean excellent, top of the line. On the other hand it could mean awful if +10 is the best. I am going to take it as the former unless you advise otherwise.

Garry, it means (at least to me) that I'm in agreement with the quoted or previous post.

A little fishing knife I put together a while ago.
Got the blade, handle material, spacers and sheath from Jantz supply.
Red spacer material, birdseye maple, stag cut buffalo horn.
Held together with brass pins.
I have another one I made. All birdseye maple with Mosaic pins.
I'll have to dig it out and post it.
I wanted something with a fat handle.

Here is my latest: An Erling Vangadel hunter made in Denmark.It was missing the sharpening steel and the point was a little buggered but it is straight now and I just located a Hoffritz sharpening steel that fits perfectly in the sheath.
Hadn't heard of the maker before but it is a great knife and looks well made.
Handle is one piece of wood sort of dovetailed to the front bolster and rear pommel;full tang with brass nut in pommel.Sheath is stitched and also held together with wire.

Hi, Here's some pics of what I have and I'd like to find a few more to round out the collection. I would like to find a Case Bradford and a CASE (block capital letters) in the 0600F pattern with good greenbone handles. I also need a Kinfolks and Kin-Foe in greenbone, same pattern. Or others that look to be a Case contract knife with greenbone. I also would be interested in a Ka-Bar 659-5 (or 6) with stag handles. These are tough knives to find and any help getting some of them run down would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks to all, Eric

This recent pickup is nothing special but it's sharp as the dickens. It's a very inexpensive carbon steel Morakniv that's made in Sweden.

I have a question regarding this twinfinn set I recently acquired. I know that the "case xx usa" with no pattern no. on the rear of the m5f means that it is a transition model, but the 516-5 is stamped with the "case" stamping, but has the "knights head pommel. My question is, is this a transition model too? Anyhow, this is a very nice set imo. Thanks, Tim

That looks like a good one; rubber grip handle pattern #119? And U.S. made. I have fixed blade knives for anywhere from $100 to $1000, all of which I love, but when I hit the field in the Autumn, and back into the boucherie, it is my plain old Bucks that do the work. My friends and I gut, skin and butcher up to 100 big game animals a year, and Buck is my number one choice for all that work. Knives are for cutting in a controlled manner. I see a lot of talk about batoning and bushcraft and similar bull crap. That is embarassing weird talk. That is why God made hatchets and axes. Duh. Hello. Not meaning you; just a random thought that came up. Good knife.

A custom made tuohipää puukko from Pekka Tuominen in Finland. Hand forged silver steel, the handle is stacked birch. He made the sheath also.

"Stainless" huh. For some reason I had it stuck in my head they are all carbon steel. Hmmm. What are your first impressions, Cutty?

Extremely sharp. Very solid feel. The only use it has seen so far is cutting my steak last night and an apple this morning, did both of those tasks very well. I also dismantled a card board box and it whispered right trough with nothing more than a push.

I hope to make a trip to the coast in a few weeks and give it a try at cutting bait and cleaning fish etc. My reason for the stainless option.

I really like it and it fits very nice and snug in the plastic sheath. For $12.75 it's really hard to beat, so far.
