Ahhhh..an old favorite..The # 66, white shell knife was also widely produced and sold...
Lots of surface ink stamped ad spec. ones..
We made these for years with several different ground blades.
This one I'd probably date late 70's or 80's...still a nice find!

OMG!!!
Where do you want me to start, besides a big NO!!
Let's start with the Master blade...Poorly shaped, blanked, ground, AND the worse part is the tang stamp tooling!! Hell, I think they used a "5" where the "D" should be instead!
The stamp is at such poor quality that on the old timer's WORSE DAY, they would never agreed to such sloppy tool work..
The cracked but nice Celluliod, maybe handles are poorly fit, riveted, and all around crap! Sorry....
What ever it's origin, I betya' dollars to doughnuts, my family didn't make this knife....

Hey garddogg56, I have no idea who made this....early Prov. Cutlery, maybe Ideal Knife??
It could be anyone!!
Hey there bigdaddy8ball, it's a Colonial alright! # 533 brown jigged Delrin handles....
This particular one has seen some action for sure! It's good to know it held up through the years; probably made in the 80's sometime..
1095 High Carbon steel blades, blades and springs are .095 thick. Liners and cut scales are
.032 solid brass and the center scale is .050! Wicked solid construction and one of the strongest knives we ever made... N.S. bolster's are dull but still in good shape!
Thanks for sharing....Bobby P. CKCo...

Bigdaddy - nice Old Cutler Stockman you found. When Bobby P. says an Old Cutler is one of the best knives ever made he is not overstating simply from family pride - he is dead-nutz on the money about those knives. I have an EDC Old Cutler Texas Jack and I will put it right in there (quality as equal or better) with my Buck 300 series and Old Timer knives. OH
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

Alrighty then....
You guys are finding these little jewels and I'm here to confirm your finds..
First off, Mr. Viking Dog, where in the world did you find this jem!!!???
This is one of, if not the first Colonial Barlow's that we ever made!! This baby was made
probably mid to late 30's, and the solid IRON bolster's are proof positive about that!! Solid iron pin assembly was used also....
Before Nickel Silver bolster's were blanked with a monster of a press, they made iron bolster's!! There is nobody alive that remember's how they made them but I'll tell you one thing, they were almost impossible to grind and polish!! The curved Colonial tang stamp is dead give away # 2..And the saw cut smooth bone was used in our Master Barlow and the smaller version you have here...In my book I speak of an old burlap sack of bone I found many years ago in the cellar of Colonial and used it making many of my first knives...
The long pull on the Master blade shows the crude grinding applied that runs right into the swedge at the top of the blade!! This knife is very old my freind and I would make you an offer if I could afford it.
It's actuall value is in the area of 100-150$ Any serious Colonial collector will agree...
Thanks my freind; what a treat...oil it, wrap it up and remember the story about it's history
Bobby Paolantonio, Colonial Knife Company, RAP Cutler, and Heritage Cutler's...
This is one for the grand children and don't EVER sell it!!! It is a true antique....
This is the way they used to make pocket knives...

Re: Now we have a Colonial thread,Show'em
Hey Old Hunter, thanks for the compliment!!! 1095 High Carbon Steel at a .095 thickness in a pocket knife is hard to argue with!! I spent the better part of 35+ years working with these parts and most of my custom knives are comprised of this knife....
Now my newest pal Rocky1122 has found an old Forest Master...the curved can opener, solid pin construction, and hand hefted belt punch tell most of the story here...the angled fake cut plastic handle is very old also..Since the "Forest Master" name was officially started in 1934, this baby here is a bit younger and I'm thinking mid 40's at least! It's been cleaned up a bit but still worth every bit of 40-60 bucks easy....ANYTHING this old makes it rare and valuable..oil it, wrap it, and hand it down...Solid N.S. bolster's too..
Bobby P. "Cutler for Ever".....

Re: Now we have a Colonial thread,Show'em
WOW!! Do you know why you got it so cheap???
Because people don't know what they have, AND there is no way to "look up"
these old knives on line!! Besides me, there is no authoritive figure that can accurately
asses these knives involving approximate date of manufacturing, handle material, and
other materials like solid iron bolster's and such..
I am more valuable to the Colonial history than anyone alive! When people read my book
and allow me to asses ANY Colonial knife to the best of my knowledge and ability, that's a value that is unsurpassed...
I'm sure glad I'm here and many collectors hopefully feel the same...
Rocky, you really should have a copy of my book..
Glad I could help..Bobby P. CKCo....

Hay Scott. If the other knife has hollow "flared" rivits -seen on the pile side, then it's likely Prov Cut. Co (although not conclusive)
