Man, that's a dandy Cato. Probably if it was made for military issue it won't have a Schrade number on it.

It would be in the Schrade Cut Co catalogs, if it is anywhere. Schrade Cut Co usually didn't number the tangs, there are exceptions, but most were not numbered.

That's not actually a TL-29, it's an earlier rendition of an electrician's knife with a different locking mechanism and slightly slimmer shape. It was likely made by Empire for Schrade. Nice example!

I think the military designator number was TL-29 for the early 3-3/4" version.
The screwdriver blade released by depressing the closed spear blade.

The later version was introduced in the 1930s, IIRC.
It was 3-3/4" and had a liner lock for the screwdriver blade.

I have some more info in them but it is on my other PC, which is in the shop.
If you are interested in it, remind me to look it up after the holiday & I will see what I can find.

I picked up a Ric-Nor Barlow electricians knife today. They don't show up very often and this one is advertised as being in good condition. Paid a bit too much for it but I like the pattern and had to have one. I have never seen a Barlow electrician made by/for anyone else. This is the sellers picture. The knife should be here by Sat. or Mon.

Not a problem Jerry. I have a Ric-Nor knife that I got many years ago and up until awhile back that was the only Barlow style electrician's knife I had ever seen either.Then I found that Colonial(I think on e-bay) and again that was the only one of those I had ever encountered.Unique enough for me to buy.Don't recall how much it was but the price was minimal.

As I told Gino, I paid a bit more than minimal for this one but I wanted one and it wasn't out of my comfort range. If I waited for one at flea market prices or a cheaper one on eBay I probably would never have landed one. Would it have ruined my life if I didn't get one? No but it didn't ruin me financially to buy this one. I just paid more than most folks would have considered a bargain.

I have one of the Colonials, just not so great a condition.
Keep looking for one of the Ric Noir in my dollar range, hasn't happened, yet.

Most of my TL-29´s were bought for tinkering around with and if I will find the time I will try to customize some of them.
Anyway, this Case is the first I bought to keep it like that in my collection. It doesn´t seem to be used at all and just a few minutes
on the buffer was all there was to do.

Don't know if I've posted these here yet and too lazy to look and see. Five CAMILLUS TL-29's, all with the four-line stamp: CAMILLUS/CUTLERY CO./CAMILLUS N.Y./U.S.A.

This first one came in a WWII Lineman's kit

I have a couple new TL-29s. one is an Electric Mate in better condition than my current one.
Just a move to upgrade my collection.

The other is a WW I version by Empire.

I will get some pics when I get finished remodeling/rearranging & cleaning my shop, and when (hopefully) things slow a bit around here.

Not a problem Dale. Also a pic of the pouch which I'm not sure if it is WWII or later. The snaps on the pouch are Star Pulls which were used during WWII. Has no Mil-Spec numbers on it but I don't think that they were made or sold for civilian use. The pouch, TL-29 and the pliers all came as a set and neither the pliers nor the knife have ever been used. Seller said that he picked them up in the Ft. Polk, La. area.

I also have a second pouch with the Mil-Spec. markings that is not in as good a shape as the first. This pouch has "Lift the Dot" snaps

Keep in mind, and I know that you already know this, unless the knife is military issue it is NOT a TL-29. TL-29 is a military designation for Tool-Lineman's.

........t.j., I've got a '76 catalog, and the pattern no. is #27, I've got a later catalog w/no date that says it's a #1770...........i'm assuming these are non-military patt. designations???.............. .....................

I believe you're right Tommy. That 1770 number sounds like it might be a CAMCO.

Now here´s something special: A Solingen made electricians knife but not in german style but rather like the US TL-29!
It lacks the bail and the liner lock though but has the typical screwdriver blade with an edge. It shows no markings whatsoever but
comes from the City of Solingen. I am pretty sure that it comes from a vintage stock or was a slight reject.
This is the first electricians knife I found that was made in Germany. The ones we use here do look different so this must have been made
for export.

Cpt. Farrel, I actually like that knife more than the traditional TL-29. While functionally safe, I find the protruding brass locking mechanism on the 29 to be unattractive.

Your knife has a cleaner profile.

I like it just the way it stands, but, Man, would that not make a beautiful conversion piece with bone or stag handles?
