Stag pattern aluminum handle hunting knife question
Hi all. I just picked up a stag pattern aluminum handled hunting knife. I know that I have seen this in one of my reference books but for the life of me can not find it again. Does anyone have any idea who made this? It measures roughly 9" overall with a 5 " blade. I don't see any markings - wait - no - I think my eyes keep playing tricks on me. Any info would be appreciated.

You reckon that knife is Vintage or antique? hehe Cool find. If it's antique then it was probably pretty pricey when it came out as I hear aluminum was almost as costly as gold... Or was that silver? This would have been in the 1800's though so that would make it both antique and vintage right? Or is that a bit vague? hehe

Re: Stag pattern aluminum handle hunting knife question
Thanks HiPower. It does have a semblance to the Murphy hunter for the fact that it has an aluminum handle but I can't find a reference one by Murphy that looks quite like this one. This seems to have the "Woodcraft" shaped blade kind of like Marbles but I'm pretty sure it's not a Marbles. The more I look at the blade the more I think that there is writing etched on it. It's so faint that I can't make it out.HiPower wrote:looks like a custom by a private maker. one name comes to mind on these type knives--murphy of oregon. r.j.murphy i think but do'nt trust my memory.--HiPower
Pulling what's left of my hair out over this one.

There is an English knife similar to that in blade and construction but the handle was a different shape with scale inserts.
I measure my collection by the ton.

Thanks Iron Hoarder. What is the blade and construction book that you mentioned?
