Old Knives With Jigged Bone Handles

Farmer jacks. Schrade kept this jigging awhile. The farmer jacks I do not think appeared in Schrade's catalog until 1932. I do not know if they made them previously.This jigging on this pattern lasted several years.

GardDog, I thought the jigging was a bit unusual on the knife, but it's hard to know what it looked like when new. I think there has been quite a bit of wear on it.

I think it's possible that at one time the bone on your knife was very similar to that on this old Robeson stockman I posted earlier.

The jigging pattern is similar and the bone on your knife is probably a bit faded.

The jigging pattern is typical of New jersey made knives of the period.

Here are some pilfered photos of Robeson knives that have sold on Ebay over the years.

I did not win any of these auctions.

This first one is a bolster lock Paxton-Gallagher, Omaha, Nebraska marked knife,
but was almost surely made by The Robeson Cutlery Company, as that bolster lock
design was theirs.

I think it has some really nice bone on it.

The rest are nice too. I particularly like the bone on that little two blade Congress.

Dimitri, I have never seen one in stainless.

Are you thinking that Paxton - Gallagher looks stainless?

It could be, I wish I had a picture with the blade open.

I would think that this type of knife , especially the model with the De-scaler blade would have been made in Stainless Steel

I know that Schrade, Ulster and others did.

Hard to say for sure, but it does look like stainless, and it is so clean without any age spots.

That knife sold on Ebay a few years ago for $600.00 or so.

Looked well worth it to me at the time, I just wasn't capable of putting that kind of money into it.

If it's stainless, it's probably worth a bit more.

I learned a lot guys. Thanks for sharing all the pics. I don't have much old bone. I would not be able to tell if it was good or bad. This pocket worn case was my Dad's. Jigging all but gone. It brought me to this site.

AS far as I'm concerned the pocket worn knives are the best.
Just imagining what that knife was use for and where that knife has been to get in that condition.
If that knife could tell a story.
