That Charlie is a tough act to follow, and a nice collection knut.I thought of this Rawson Bros.Don't know how old ,maybe s-k Steve can shed some light,it's Sheffield. 4" or maybe a little better,if I remember correctly.Interesting covers.Notice that it is stepped down to the liners ,gives it a routed or trimmed look.I don't remember ever seeing this,but I'm up in these hills.

I like the knife a lot,of course those big single spring jacks get me.

Charlie, your Robeson collection always dazzles me !

I don't have many, but here's a newer one with strawberry bone, and an older one (on the right) with wormgroove.

Charlie, I see several variations in the jigging pattern that Robeson used over the years

What a great thread Dimitri has started here. I knew he had an abiding interest in old jigged bone. Hopefully, this thread will satisfy his need for a while.

You guys have shown a fantastic group of knives and the different bone jigging is an education in itself.

Fran, that Flame Edge jack is a great piece, but not new. It dates about 1948 to 1959 or 60.

I have never seen anything like that fine routing of the bone edge on that Rawson. That's just art.

The reason I posted so many Robesons is because they used so many different jigging patterns and die lots over the years.

And I'm not sure I actually displayed all the different ones I have, but it's enough to give you an idea.

I think some of Robeson's bone was the best I've ever seen from anybody.

But then, I'm quite prejudiced in their behalf.

Keep em' coming!

Still waiting for Brett and Kathy to chime in.

BTW, I am really excited to see that old Battle Axe. That's a new one for me. I thought that was a 1970's Tony Shouse creation. Had no idea there was a vintage company by that name.

Those Pennsylvanians, you just can't get ahead of them.

Charlie, Thanks for the info on the flame edge. I thought it was a little newer than that.

I don't think Battle Axe, Phila. ever manufactured. I think all of their knives were made on contract, but the ones I have seen have been very nice.

One Philadelphia company that I know didn't manufacture knives was E.K. Tryon, Philadelphia. EKT started as a maker of flintlocks, and early on was associated with William Henry I. William Henry I, or maybe it was W. Henry II, established a gun works at Bolton, Pa. More can be learned about that by googling " Jacobsburg Historical Society" who have recently established a fine little museum of Pennsylvania ( Kentuc.) rifles, and Henry guns in particular. Note: These are NOT the Henry repeating rifles which were invented much later in Connecticut.

The Tryon Co. went on to dealing in a general line of sporting goods, and in the 20th centry, toys. Ron Gable has a pretty good chronology of the Tryon Co. on his website. http://www.gabelguns.com/QuestionsAndAn ... umber=1814
