what is it

HEY JOERC;
Cannot really make out tang mark, do not do much to knife, get better light and post better picture of tang stamp. If it is what it seems it could be a rare mark. That is according to Allen P. Swayne.
Thanks

Joerc2002,

Welcome!

I'm not a Case expert, but I've never seen a stamp where the top of the C went over the S. And, unfortunately, it isn't a neat, clean stamp. It does look like it could be a 9201R in cracked ice or imitation pearl. But, the stamp is discomforting.
However, I'd suggest you post a couple of these pictures at the W. R. Case forum here...

http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/showforum.php?fid/74/

Maybe title it "A question for Shirley Boser"...she is the Case historian.

Hope they prove me incorrect, and you've got a rarity of some kind.

Sir;
In all deference to those more learned than I am, I will just post these pics. Cause all I know about case knives can be written in my palm.

Hey Mossdancer...

That is good stuff! ::tu::

I will say, however, that the stamp I believe you are comparing COMPLETELY covers the S... not partially, like the one in the picture.
I probably should have said "covers the S in this manner", I apologize.

Anyway, I know that is a drawing and might be open to someone's interpretation of the stamp...and I did say I hope Shirley proves me incorrect. :D

Thanks for any and all input, just makes us wiser.

HI;
First of all I reiterate, I am not a case expert. I understand that you are excited, for the time look at all of this as just BS. If its not great, your still not going to retire.

I wont lie to you it says RA-2, less than fifty known. Now that was in the seventies, millions could have shown up since then. Just keep going through the channels that have been suggested by Bill and others.
Verify again and again. Good luck and God Bless.

Thanks a lot guys
this is all helpfull...
I know im not going to retire on tiny knife. lol
I was just interested to see if any one else had seen this stamp....

I've been buying, selling, & trading in pocket knives & coins
for over 30 years,, and not seen top of c cover the s before..
And "sometimes" I find something like this,"" it excites me""
Thats why I do This ,, It is fun to me...
I found a case xx Trapper, that the tang has been hit 3 times, Im excited over that one still to this day ..
when i find these things like this , i try to find out what someone else might know about them ..
Then, add it to what "very little," I know. That is how I gather up a History on things..
Then I sort out some of the B.S, BUT I always like to leave some B.S in.
LOL
Thanks to everyone for all your input , has all been helpfull and fun.....

By golly j5109, I do think it looks like the stamp at the bottom of page 170 in Witcher's fine book. The relationship of the C and it's top serif...and the s...looks real good, as well as the typeface, and slightly wavy underline, which, from the pictures, I thought was not a clean stamping.
Good catch... ::tu:: ::tu::

I see that joerc2002 has posted on the Case forum...I hope Shirley says it looks good as well.

Good find, joerc2002!!

I love this stuff!

Bill

P. S.
I just got this one off of eBay for about $25...it is a similar style...but just a little 92042 from 1970. Not rare, but a neat little knife.
