1970s Boker

These were made in the 1974-75. One of the boxes had a flyer for the soon to be released Great American Story knives which were released in 1976. I know there was a large stockman in this set aswell. Does anyone have it? Also do you know of any other patterns in the set? Thanks

That is a fine Boker set, I really like the rough cut jigging on those knives. I can't help you on the American Story knives but I can sure appreciate the set you have shown us. Thanks..

I do have a question though, as long as Boker has been in business you would think that there would be more folks collecting these knives. But instead it seems that the value does not increase like other knives even though they are affordable have quality and use great steel with many long years of being in the cutlery business..

Then again maybe I am just running in different cutlery collecting circles and have not noticed all the Boker collectors..

I agree. Given the quality and history there must be some avid collectors out there somewhere

. On another site there is a Boker forum but the focus of the discussion tends to be the modern tactical types

. This is a large blackbone stockman also from the 1970s. One shield has WISS which was the New Jersey Company that made Boker USA (1969-1978) and the other is the traditional Boker Soligen shield.

Hey S-K, Great looking knives there.

I have a double shield stockman just like the one in the picture you posted. I also have one with double shields (that are silver, not gold) dated 1971 but with round bolsters. I really like the Boker Tree Brand pocket knives. To me, most seem to have very good metal in the blades. Gotta love that in a working knife right?

S-K, I will try to get you some pictures of the knife you asked for, if I can get one of my sons to fix this here puter to do so. I don't have a digital camera but I think he's got a scanner to hook up for me. May take a week or two before he gets a day off from work to come down to do it. I also have another Tree brand knife I'd like to show you. It's a 3 bladed whittler pattern with white to yellow, maybe ivory handles. It has round bolsters. It has "Wiss Commemorative LTD 1848-1973" printed on the front of the master blade. On the tang where the Boker name would normally be, there's a serial #29989 stamped. On the back of the master blade it has the tree and 8313 stamped at the tang. The smaller blades have Boker U.S.A. stamped on their tang. All the blades are shining like new. The shield isn't a round Tree Brand shield, it's two ovals connected by a tri-angle. Written on the shield in one oval is Boker over top of 1837, then in the tri-angle is 1973, then the other oval has Wiss over top of 1848. It's never been carried or used. I just oil the blades every now and then. I bought it new in 1974 if I remember it right. I have a few more knifes also. Some more Bokers (U.S.A. and German), Case, Schrade, Old Timer, Buck, Camillus, a Western made in Boulder Colorado two blade folding hunter with cracked ice handles (it looks like the same frame as my Case two blade folding hunter), and a Parker-Edwards single blade lock back with Jacksonville AL stamped on the tang, it has a Damascus steel blade and what looks to me like bone handles (and very very sharp but never used). Sorry, didn't mean to write you a book ::blah:: . I just want to learn more about all my knives too fast I guess.

Hi Duffy. There is alot going on with that knife. It must be made during the 125 anniversary of the WISS company as the dates 1848-1973 suggest. Jacob Wiss and Sons were based in Newark NJ and originally made scissors etc. WISS bought Boker USA in 1969 and then in 1978 it became part of the Cooper Group. The factory in NJ closed and Boker USA knives were subsequently made in North Carolina until 1984. In 1986, Boker USA was bought by the German Boker co and that was the end of the US made Boker knives. Boker USA is currently based in Colorado and is the US importer for Boker knives. 1837 is believed to be the year that Herman Boeker emigrated to NY and founded H.Boker & Co. 8318 is the pattern number. I hope this is of interest.

I know the feeling too. It's a sign of our age. But some of us oldies keep trying to learn....

I have this Boker and to this day have not seen one like her.

Thanks S-K for the Boker info. I learn more everytime I come to these forums. Justolt52, that's a real looker there friend. Can't say I've ever seen one like that. I'm sorry I haven't replyed back sooner but, my health and the hospital has had me held back. I look forward to seeing all the knives posted on here and reading all the information my little pea-brain can soak in about them.

Just Old that sure is a stunner there, that's part of the "Wildlife Series" isn't it? I saw one awhile back it had a deer or a elk on it I am not sure which. That is also one of my favorite Boker pattern's, I have a few of them with different handle material.
Right now I am trying to complete the "Tang Stamp Series" in Stag. As near as I can tell I only need two more the Small Congress and the Step Bolster Congress. If anyone know's the complete listing of the series plese let me know.
