Japanese Razor

Post by FRJ »

Can any one offer any insight into my friends handsome old Japanese razor.

It's approximately 6 1/2" long. The cutting edge is to the lower left.

Thank you.

That type of razor is referred to as a "kamisori". I don't own any. They've got an odd grind as the blade is asymmetrical.

That one looks pretty much used up. You might check around and see if any one can translate the writing on the blade. It may very well be over a 100 years old.

More info on that style of razor here;

Hi Willie,
thanks for that information. He (my friend) was told it could be around 100 yrs. old.

He'll be happy with the response.
Thanks again.
