Here is a fake Remington I picked up off of eBay many years ago. I was just getting back into knives after a 30 year layoff and this apeared to be a great buy so I purchased it. Long story short a friend took one look and said FAKE! The little guy feels great, is as sharp as a razor and since I didn't pay much for it I just kept it. It still has the rust spots etc, and is a constant reminder that I need to stay in a field that I know something about. I was a case collector and just bought this due to the price...... According to my friend, Remington never made a yellow handled knife and if they did the blade was not etched R4925...... I would love to prove him wrong but I think this is just another lesson that I learned the hard way. Thanks for asking and God bless you and yours. cordell

A bit of a strange case. I own three Remington knives with yellow handles (two circle Remingtons and one straight line) so I would respectfully disagree that Remington didn't use that handle material.
The pattern number is a bit of an anomaly to me however, the "5" at the end would be correct for the handle material, however, I can't find that pattern number listed in Stewart and Ritchies book on Remingtons and it is usually pretty complete. The etched or inked on pattern looks authentic from what I can see and it seems strange that someone would fake a knife like this and then use a non-existent pattern number.
Maybe someone more knowledgeable will be along to clarify.

Genuine Remington knife. I think that number might be 4825 with yellow Pyremite handles. In 1989 catalog it was worth 100 bucks in mint condition.

The knife looks good to me, it is a late 30's model according to the tang stamps, and the inked pattern number confirms. I'll try to post a picture of one tomorrow. I've probably got 75 or more Remingtons handled in yellow pyremite.

Hi, thats realy not a fake remington , it's just a Camillus ,with Remingtons ok to use their tang stamp, I would bet that over 90% of the good looking Remingtons were made by another company,
In 1940 and before people bought cheap knives to use, and I wonder how many of the 1,500 patterens were Remington pre-1940's, I think most of the pre-1940 Remingtons were worn out or lost, from 1940 until now alot of remington stamped knived were made, even making 10,000 a day the majorty are gone forever, until someone finds the paper work no one will know. George
