Does this Case XX 6232 look correct?

Someone commented on the shield shape for a XX era knife plus the lettering and the covers for that matter.

You are right looks odd. Check to see if the shield is pinned on.

looks pinned. There are two pins opposite the shield through/flush with the brass scale.

...so authentic? Fit and finish is top notch. Better than any of the newer Case knives that I have.

I'll put my 2 cents worth in.

The first thing that strikes me about this knife is the back handle. Just at a glance, it doesn't really look like I would expect an XX era knife to look. The jigging just doesn't look right. Additionally, the way the color fades at the ends reminds me of XX USA and later knives. The shield, as has already been mentioned also doesn't really look like an XX era shield. I'm not too familiar with later Case shields, however, this does look to be a later one.

I would be concerned that this is an XX era knife that has been re-handled (possibly by Case) at a later time, and with a later shield.

Yes, it does look more like a Case XX USA. I may get with Case, they helped me with that 50 cent knife that was around a while back.

Well looks like its a real Case. According to the Historian at Case, this knife was repaired/restored. Fine by me, I planned on carrying it in any event. I did pay too much for it from the same seller that sold me the fake Case 50 cent knife. I suppose I should note that somewhere so others buy with caution from this person.
