Monroe hardware?

Picked this up at the flea market, neat little knife. I'm thinking about making new liners, adding bolsters and scales. Would I be ruining something of any value or is this a run of the mill knife?

Tommy's probably correct when he said he thinks it's rare. However rarity is only significant to the value of a knife if it's married to desirability. I doubt this knife has more than minimal monetary value. It does show what tang stamp Camillus was using in 1976.

Very cool, thanks Jerry. Yeah I'll probably leave it the way it is. It still has great snap and very pocket friendly, being so thin and all. Plus 76 is my birth year so sort of cool for me. Thanks guys.

There ya go. Excellent reason to keep it as is. Not often you run on to a knife with your birth year on it.

The second is The Wonder of Knifemaking 2nd edition, by Wayne Goddard http://www.knifeworld.com/wonder.html

Wayne's table is right behind mine at the OKCA show. I picked up his book at the show a couple weeks ago.
I wish I had access to all that info before I started making & repairing knives.

This is a book every knife maker, knife mechanic or knife collector should have.
It will give one an appreciation for all that goes into knife making and tells you how to do it on a small budget.


BTW, nice knife! I think I have one with an earlier tang stamp. Maybe I can find it when my knee heals up.

Thanks for the info Dale, I'll be looking into those. I cleaned the little thing up and have been carrying it for the past couple days. I think I'll hold on to it for a while but I'll keep you in mind Iron Head.

Thanks J.T. I had surgery on the 22nd.
The bruising has just started to show up in the last 3 days. The PA (physicians assistant) on the surgery is a friend of ours. He said they have to dislocate the knee to do the replacement. No wonder it hurts so badly, I dislocated the same knee in college in about 1975. It hurt for the next 2 years, and never was right after that, that probably contributed to it wearing out completely.

I am doing a little better than I expected, even though I have had a minor setback. I am getting tired of setting in the house. I want to be able to drive again!

The knee itself hurts less than it did before the surgery, what hurts is all the trauma associated with the surgery. It is nice to be able to walk without all the popping & grinding!

.....dale, maybe you need to try my joint remedy, i fxed my shoulder after i fell out of a tree w/chainsaw 2 yrs. ago......2 weeks in the recliner with the heating pad and "jacque danyel"!!!!!....... ..................
