Need help with old, unmarked fixed blade knife

Need help with old, unmarked fixed blade knife

I went to an auction preview and found a nice looking hunting knife with no marks. It is almost identical to the one I have pictured. It has the same basic blade shape and leather handle. I don't remember what the butt was shaped like. The auction is tonight and I would like to bid on the knife. Was there a prominent knife company that made good quality knives but didn't mark them? How old would a knife like that be? I'm guessing the 1940's. Thanks, Al

Western State Cutlery Co became Western Cutlery in 1956. Western Cutlery was in Boulder from 1956 to 1978. Your knife would be in that time .

Too late for the auction but Cardinal comes to mind. They marked some of them on the guards where it is very inconspicuous. Also made Official scout knives.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
