My First From Montana

Yesterday I received this lovely little fixed blade from Ed Caffrey "The Montana Bladesmith". It's an EBK II from his EBK ( Economical Belt Knife ) series. It measures 6 1/2' overall with a 2 3/4" ( Wharncliff ) blade made of deferentially heat treated 1084 Carbon steel. The blade is a flat grind with a convex edge. The handle is blue/black G10 with nickel/silver lanyard hole, and the sheath is Kydex with a multi position Tek-Lok belt clip.

Included with the knife is a complete description of the knife, two pages of knife care "do's and dont's" and a personally signed "I will make it right" guarantee. Ed also offers a lifetime cleaning and sharpening service. You just provide shipping both ways and Ed will do the rest.

The EBK series currently includes both Drop Point and Wharncliff blades with plain blade or partially serrated versions available, and a variety of G10 scales can be fitted.

Based on this EBK, there may be another Ed Caffrey, designed and made, knife in my future.

Anyone care to comment on the type of steel used. It's another aspect of cutlery I know nothing about.
