Take your pics outside in a shaded area or next to a window indoors.
Use your Macro feature and a tripod if you have one. No flash!

Don't worry! Everyones are bad when they first start.
Knives can be hard to photograph.

I delete a lot more photos than i keep

A good scanner with a depth of field compatible with 3-dimensional objects does a credible, though unartistic job.
