Levines Book 4th Edition

Post by wt3l »

Well, I have been "surfing" as they say...I'm not real good on this computer thingy. I have been looking for a Levine 4th edition knife book. To add to my collection. Thought I found where to get one. To my dismay I scroll down the page and find that the book is sold out.!!!!! I went from excitement to sadness in just a scroll down the page. At any rate, I was recently at the Salem, VA gun/KNIFE show. I saw a Levine's 5th edition book...but I remembered reading here that there have been some serious omitions and other liberties taken with this 5th edition and that Mr. Levine himself does NOT endorse this book. It was selling for $27.00 but I left it there and opted to buy a nice Queen steel nugget that need a new home. Oh well, back to the hunt at yard sales and flea markets when the weather warms up. Hope Santa was good to everyone. Remember No need to worry about the world ending today...it's already tomorrow in Australia. later. wt3l

Hi, I have been trying to built a set for a couple of years, even 1, 2 and 3 are getting a little steep.

You are right about what you heard, I read it in Knife World , I believe. I can find the quote here someplace, if you like. I see them sell on eBay for around $40 bucks when they are there. A.G. Russell's got them for $75 now.

You shoulda got that one, but then you found a knife you liked. Maybe he will write another.

Good luck with your quest.

I had it on my edukated tv:

Edited excerpt from Knife World, July 2001
by Bernard Levine:
“A few weeks ago I received a copy of Levine's Guide to Knives & Their Values, 5th Edition, from Krause Publications. I had nothing whatsoever to do with the production of this "new" edition, so I was curious to see what had changed. Krause had acquired the rights to Levine's Guide back in 1997, when they bought its original publisher, DBI Books. The 4th edition was just going to press at the time of the transition.
Krause's new 5th edition has serious deficiencies and omissions. Because of these defects, I will not be selling copies of the 5th edition. Even though I will be earning royalties on sales of this "new" edition, I cannot in good conscience recommend that anyone purchase it.”

Don't give up hope, last month after awhile of searching, I stumbled across a "4th" edition on a table at a gun & knife show for $8.00.

Used but no binding cracks or damage.

Bernard Levine's 3rd & 4th Edition

Post by ivanskee68 »

Howdy Wt31, I just happen to have both the 3rd & 4th Edition. I would be willing to sell both books for $50.00 plus whatever the shipping costs me to send them. They are both in very good condition, no torn pages and both front and back covers are in very good condition also.
If you are interested you may send me an email to ([email protected]) or call me at 717-691-5853.
P.S. I want to sell both editions at once.
Thanks, Ivan Keener

Hi,

I find the Alibris search engine very handy for finding hard to find or out of print books. Here's a link to their site:

http://www.alibris.com/search/search.cf ... 4v97t0.SHA

They have mostly 5th edition, but there is a 3rd edition paperback listed.

Good luck!

I have a 4th Edition on E-bay right now.

It is in real good shape, almost new condition.

Mr. Levine signed it for the guy I bought it from. I got it but I am not a collector, I just get a knife and use it. Mainly Buck and Case.

Gkost is my user name.

Thank you, George in Arkansas.
