Hi i wondered if anyone could possibly date this pocket knife i picked up.

It has a leather pouch and i think the handle is made from bone but im not sure,it has "No6 norfolk st sheffield" on one side and the other has a cross and a star on it. i hope this picture helps.

It is not a pocket knife, it does not fold.

It is a fixed blade Budding knife, hard to tell from the photo but the handle is either Ivory or shin bone, most likely Ivory. The sheath is not leather it is made of a type of early cardboard called pasteboard, some had a Moroccan veneer over the pasteboard, although I doubt this one does.

It looks like the same type of sheath that they used for their ink erasers.That's what I thought it was at first;didn't open up the pictures.

Everyone has given you correct information and here is a little more. This model # P.531 budding knife is shown in both Joseph Rodgers Victorian and Edwardian catalogs which would date this model from around the mid 1800s to early 1900s. Many knives from many companies were offered unchanged for several decades, so it is often difficult to pin down an exact time frame. Note that the catalog picture has the word "Ivory" next to the knife, but these models were offered in both ivory and bone as Miller Bros. had suggested.

Pasteboard. I haven't heard that used in years. When I was a kid in S. Indiana/S. Illinois, that's what we called cardboard. I think that's the same material the boxes for the two straight razors I have are made of (belonged to my grandfather's).
