Re: Lets show some Old and Rare ones.
You guys are posting some rare beauties lately! We have been keeping our eyes open for a saddlehorn, like Slim and MB posted, but haven't found the right deal yet.

I agree about the saddlehorns being grail knives, and those are some great examples. I also like the Nagel.

Thanks all for the nice comments. I wish mine hadn't been so heavily buffed, would've preferred the natural patina like MB's.Slim

Nice knife, MB, very interesting. How long is it closed? I would assume the small hatchet blade to be more of a novelty than very functional?

Measures 5" closed, 8 1/2" open, the hatchet is 3/16" thick and is very sturdy.danno50 wrote: How long is it closed? I would assume the small hatchet blade to be more of a novelty than very functional?
It has a steel pin at the joint and was made to use, it weighs in at 9.2 oz.

Thanks Kathy
Here is one that I think is pretty cool, and it took me a while to find a nice one, so they must be scarce

Re: Lets show some Old and Rare ones.
Here's one I posted before but thought I'd show it again in response to your question. While the knife can be used when the cleaver blade is opened if the knife blade is to be used it is almost impossible to grip the handle properly due to the protrusion of the cleaver blade when closed.I also don't believe a whole lot of pressure could be applied to the cleaver without snapping the pivot pin.JMHOdanno50 wrote:Nice knife, MB, very interesting. MB, love that Union hatchet Scout. Nicely used. Would love to talk to the "boy" that owned it.

Yeah me too, I bet he was real proud to have this knife/hatchet combo, and probably the only one in the neighborhood that had one.RobesonsRme.com wrote:Would love to talk to the "boy" that owned it.

All great knives guys,I've enjoyed looking at them.
I don't have any real old knives but this little 3 3/8 pen made by Warranted cutlery,Ger in the 1960s is still in like new condition. It has french ivory handles and the blade has in German “good hunting” etch.

MB, I can just imagine all of the logs, sticks, etc. that were hacked with that hatchet.
You do have quite the collection.
I'm a few pages late with this, but here's my friend's Wilbert/Napanoch saddlehorn.

Obsidian, that is a beautiful saddlehorn. What a beautiful outline the handle has, and the worm groove jigging is really something.
MB, very nice Ulster sea scout. It seems hard for me not to love a knife with a sheepsfoot blade. Any idea when Ulster might have made this? 1930s?
