I just received a Sword Brand w/four line Camillus stamp witht the same handle material. If you look closely on the inside of the blade well you will see where tabs have been punched into the frame to anchor the handles.

You are definitely catching up, Grant. The LR6 is a nice one. You don't see 80s very often and that early scout is one I don't have.

Jelly I have two scouts with the early shield .One has three pins in the handles and sabre (saber ) grind on both sides. The second one is the earlier tang stamp one pin in handles and sabre grind one side.I though it would be the other way with the early one with the sabre grind on both sides.

Also, that's the first 1047 (Scout 72) I've seen with three pins in the handles. All Scouts I've seen have only one pin.

Tried to verify the blades have snap and the seller turned into a total A--hole. Wouldn't buy from him now if he was the last seller on the planet. What a complete jerk.Shearer wrote:Jerry there one on Ebay .

Jerry I think the knife is great. The ducks are engraved on the blade instead of etching they use on Schrade Scrimshaws which can fade or rub off.You have to have one in hand to appreciate it.

Re: camillus #72
I got this one last week.
That handles are transparent and appear to be glued on.
The clip blade is way down but it should make a good platform for a replacement blade and new handles.
I am pretty sure the re-handle was done after it left the factory!

Re: camillus #72
I believe Tom is sending me some blades. I may have to use a Powr-Kraft blade or something else.
He said something about being short of Camillus branded #72 blades.
Here is something else for #72 enthusiasts.
It arrived yesterday & I had good light today so I snapped a couple pics.
I hope you enjoy them.

Grant,
I found the box on ebay, maybe you can find one too.
The compass was a gift. It is also the only one I have seen.
Apparently Schrade collectors didn't keep those.
Truth be told, there were only a handful of really serious Schrade collectors before the end of the Schrade Company in the USA, and most of those collected the old Schrade Cut Co knives. not the later Schrades.

Dale I purchase a lot of knives of Ebay USA but I don't get to see all the listings.Ebay registers where you come from and blocks some of the items for sale.It depends how the seller lists the items. When I do a saved search some of these listings are emailed to me and bypass Ebay's blocking. That is when I ask Jerry to bid on a knife for me.These blocked knives also show up when I check the completed listings.
As far as the compass goes it give me something to look for .I may not find one but its the hunt that counts.

Re: camillus #72
I'm going to have to start paying a little closer attention to detail.
Are you saying the bottom Yello-Jaket has a 22LR6 blade? (like the one I have)
That's the first Moor Mans' I've ever seen and the first matchstrike pull that short I've ever seen. Is the Camillus blade longer than the Moor Mans' or is that an optical delusion caused by the different length pulls?
Jeez Louise. Another variation I can look for. And here I just got a Trustworthy and a Hammer Brand in today. This is never ending. Is there another pattern out there that was made by so many different makers for so many different jobbers?

Re: camillus #72
Someone has probably made this observation before, but incase they have not, the Moore-Maker has a swedge ground blade and the Yello-Jaket does not. I noticed the Stanley, Yello-Jaket, Remington, .22LR & the Yello-Jaket with the acrylic bee shield all do not have a swedge ground master blade, but the older knives do have the swedge ground master blades.
Any idea when they stopped grinding the swedge?

Dale -- Look a little closer. The shield says Moor Man's, not Moore-Maker. I'm thinking they're not related.orvet wrote:the Moore-Maker has a swedge ground blade

As far as dropping the swedge grind, I'd guess sometime around the middle '90s. I don't think you can rely on the SFOs to date that but the "100th Anniversary" model with bone handles and ducks engraved in the blade and the Ole Smoky have swedge grinds, plus this one with the last tang stamp. All the rest I have with that tang stamp do not have the swedge.
